& Presentation Tips PowerPoint Tricks

CONSIDER… Content: What do you say? Design: How do you show it? Delivery: How do you SELL it?

Remember PowerPoint is here to ENHANCE your presentation, not to BE your presentation.

Content

KNOW YOUR STUFF Do your research. The slideshow is the easy part.

HAVE A HOOK Grab their attention Pathos – surprise, fear, happiness Logos – startling statistic, logic problem Hooks practice

ASK QUESTIONS Rhetorical questions Build tension Limited Q & A

EDIT Proofread Practice Get feedback

Design

LIMIT TEXT ON SLIDE Write in bullets or phrases, not sentences Never list ALL words you’re planning to say

Another thing to avoid is the use of a large block paragraph to introduce your information. Attendees do not like to have what is on the screen, read to them verbatim. So, please use short, bulleted statements and avoid typing out your whole presentation on to the slides. Also, it is difficult for some to listen and read a large amount of text at the same time. This detracts from you. You’re the star! Don’t NO Paragraphs!

YOU ARE THE EXPERT The text is there to prompt you Your slideshow is not the expert

Using color for decoration is distracting and annoying. Using a font color that does not contrast with the background color is hard to read Using a different color for each point is unnecessary -Using a different color for secondary points is also unnecessary Trying to be creative can also be bad COLOR SCHEMES
