1 SparGuard For Healthcare
An Essential Layer of Protection From Hospital Acquired Infections Pollen Bio-Terrorism Jan 13, 2013

2 Innovation Goals Readiness – illness reduced readiness levels up.
Per capita cost - this system will pay for itself in labor and materials savings Population Health - Provides the ability to take military facilities and have the hygiene levels at near clean room standards Experience of Care – genius technology that can be used by everyone.

3 Purpose: To describe how SparGuard and Filter Technologies products can add additional protection capability. To determine if there is a good fit between your needs and our offerings and if we should move forward. Agenda: Introductions Product Overview Proposed Solutions/ Business Opportunities Questions/Comments Next Steps

4 The Antimicrobial Technology Choice
SparGuard protects virtually all solid surfaces and fabrics from a broad array of disease and odor causing microorganisms, including all forms of MRSA. On application, SparGuard reduces existing microbe populations by up to 99.99% on contact, and continues to inhibit their return for 30 days to permanently depending on the application process. 4

5 Why Use SparGuard Safe and effective
Works on virtually all surfaces and fabrics Keeps laundry from spreading microorganisms Neutralizes and prevents offensive odors Stops mold and mildew Cost savings Long lasting Ease of application Multiple application methods EPA Registered Patented

6 Super-bugs are on the rise
Infection is the #1 cause of death worldwide and the #3 cause of death in USA. “Super bug” mutations caused by sterilants, chemicals 25 years ago 80% of infection was controlled by antibiotics. Today, less than 50% of infections are deemed controllable. Health problems caused by the growth of bacteria, fungi, algae, mold, and mildew in living and work areas are ever increasing. Mold is more lethal than asbestos and more prevalent

7 SparGuard - A Micro Biostatic Surface Protectant
Microbes land on the surface protectant. Microbes’ membranes are ruptured by the surface protectant and die Surface remains ready for next microbe. How it Works Electron Microscope View What makes SparGuard different? Not a leaching poison, does not use depleting heavy metals Continues to protect in-between cleanings. Both colorless and odorless. Water-based, easy to handle and low risk for workers to use. 7

9 SparGuard Usage Spray it on or wash it in.
Becomes active within 3 minutes of application and starts to work as soon as microorganisms come into contact with the treated surface. It then works continuously to maintain a consistently lower bio-burden than would be expected on a surface without SparGuard protection. Normal cleaning of the treated surfaces is necessary in order for SparGuard’s antimicrobial spikes to continue their effectiveness. Dirt build-up, paint, dead microbes, etc. can cover the treatment prohibiting it from killing microorganisms.

10 SparGuard Laundry Treatment
SparGuard and Fabric Softener Combined An independent long term hospital study showed that SparGuard reduced microbe counts in many cases by over 99% on fabrics and other surfaces (Study is available upon request.) SparGuard has been shown to very significantly reduce the staph counts and subsequent staph infections on oil rigs. SparGuard treatment increases the longevity of fabrics, as recognized by the EPA, as it “Inhibits deterioration caused by bacteria.” This deterioration causes wear on fabrics as well as mold and mildew. Extended durability tests are now being conducted.

11 SparGuard Laundry Treatment
Use with fabric softener dispenser Items normally laundered Fabrics that can’t be “tracked” or have high turnover Use every wash -Add 1% of the weight of the fabric being washed. Use in every wash and SparGuard protection increases, as shown in a study (Study is available upon request.) Only $0.02 -$.03 per pound Item not regularly laundered and/or can’t be laundered Curtains, room dividers, and upholstered furniture. Fabrics that can be tracked such as an individual uniforms One Time Usage - Add 5% of the weight of the fabric being washed. It’s 5% active ingredient used one-time gives antimicrobial protection for the useful life of the fabric. Only $0.10 -$0.15 per pound

12 Case Study - Privacy Curtains
From CBS News – Link available upon request Scientists swabbed 43 hospital curtains twice a week for three weeks. They analyzed 180 samples, and found germs on 119. Twenty-six percent of curtains tested positive for the potentially deadly antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteria known as MRSA, and 44 percent tested positive for a form of Enterococcus bacteria - some of which were antibiotic resistant. Researchers also placed 13 new curtains in a hospital for the study. Within a week, 12 were contaminated. SparGuard Hospital Study Microbial Counts: Baseline - 2/25/ Follow-Up 3/21/ >10 Follow-Up 3/30/ Through June >10

13 Containment Filter The Problem – Keeping the pathogen with the patient: Nosocomial transmission usually occurs through direct contact in the same air space or by indirect contact through suspended pathogens that have been mixed by the HVAC system and spread to other areas in the facility, served by the same air handler. Until now there has not been a method that is effective in reducing or preventing the transmission of submicron airborne pathogens Standard hospital filters of 95% dust micron have little effect in stopping submicron particulate, being 88% inefficient on submicron particles. Only HEPA or near HEPA filtration are considered effective on particles submicron in size.

14 The Solution - Prevent microbes from entering the system in the first place.
For the first time ever allows for H.E.P.A. or near H.E.P.A. filtration of the return vents directly in the room and common areas of the structure. New synthetic media with efficiencies to H.E.P.A. .1 micron. Soft flexible pad with a very low static pressure. Easily installed and removed Requires no retrofit to the HVAC main system. Attach via double sided tape over every return vent. Drastically reducing the transmission of the pathogen from one area of the facility to another.

15 Conclusion Hospital Safe can turn hygiene standard in any facility to near clean room standards Containment filters will keep the air particle free. If used on HVAC system in Afghanistan the filter will save thousands to tens of thousands of dollars in fuel cost. SparGuard and containment filters save money in cleaning cost. Because SparGuard is so efficient, it is possible to lower the cost of your disinfectants. Containment filters are so efficient there is a labor Savings Cost for cleaning. No dust less time cleaning. Testing is available to show efficacy

18 Qualities of SparGuard
Effectiveness - The molecule never depletes itself as all other antimicrobials do. Durability – The product’s stable molecular structure results in a protectant that is often permanent for the life of the product. Due to its tenacious bonding properties to most substrates, only abrasion can remove SparGuard.

19 How Does SparGuard protection work?
The active ingredient in SparGuard adheres to all surfaces and is both colorless and odorless. Think of SparGuard as a layer of electrically charged swords. When a microorganism comes in contact with the treated surface, the quaternary amine sword punctures the cell membrane and the remnants are then electrocuted. Since nothing is transferred to the now dead cell, the antimicrobial does not lose it’s strength and the sword is now ready for the next cell to fall on it. (NOTE: Normal cleaning of the treated surfaces is necessary in order for the SparGuard antimicrobials to continue their effectiveness. Dirt buildup, paint, dead microbes, etc. will cover the treatment prohibiting it from killing microorganisms.)

20 How SparGuard Works SparGuard forms an almost permanent bond with the surface substrate. A ‘wheat field’ of carbon shafts protects the surface from microbes. Microbes are drawn to the ‘wheat field’ of shafts by the positively charged nitrogen atom. The microbe’s cell wall is ruptured by the shafts. A positive charge from the nitrogen atom delivers a fatal electrical charge to the cell wall of the microbe
