page 1 Jan Uythoven AB/BT, LBDS meeting 18 May 2004 Apertures LSS6 l Position MKQA l Vacuum chamber between Q4 and TCDS

page 2 Jan Uythoven AB/BT, LBDS meeting 18 May 2004 Position of MKQA magnet l Position as presented in special meeting on 24 April is not valid »Additional kick to extracted beam by Q4 was not taken into account l Possible positions are given assuming: »MKD vacuum chamber D = 57 mm, alignment  0.5 mm »Closed orbit 4 mm »Includes beta beating, tune adjustment, residual dispersion etc. »Stored beam n1 = 7; na = 1.22; nr = 1.4 »Extracted beam n1 = 6.5 (no halo) »Extracted beam MKD kick = 110 % * 0.275 mrad

page 3 Jan Uythoven AB/BT, LBDS meeting 18 May 2004 Apertures MKQA Just o.k. about 13.5 m right of exit Q4

page 4 Jan Uythoven AB/BT, LBDS meeting 18 May 2004 At 7 m from Q4, stored beam is too large

page 5 Jan Uythoven AB/BT, LBDS meeting 18 May 2004 At 15 m from Q4 to extracted beam hits the vacuum chamber

page 6 Jan Uythoven AB/BT, LBDS meeting 18 May 2004 Apertures MKQA stored extracted MKD entrance n1 = 6.7 MKD exit: n1 = 6.9 For chamber of D = 57 mm, on axis two options: Right of Q4 between 12.7 m and 14.0 m relative to exit of Q4 Left of Q4, more than 46 m relative to exit of Q4 (right) Displacing the chamber off-axis makes things worse Exit right Q4L

page 7 Jan Uythoven AB/BT, LBDS meeting 18 May 2004 Or more than 46 m left of Q4

page 8 Jan Uythoven AB/BT, LBDS meeting 18 May 2004 One possibility Disadvantages: Radioactive environment just after the TCS Very tight apertures At distance of 13.5 m: beta-x = 187 m ; beta-y = 557 m With D = 58 mm and 1 mm off- set can swap MKQA and TCS

page 9 Jan Uythoven AB/BT, LBDS meeting 18 May 2004 Disadvantages: * Place available in UA / cable length * Different beta-functions than originally foreseen at –47 m: beta-x = 512 m, beta-y = 162 m * Integration to be checked Other option of MKQA position > 46 m Much better from radiation point of view; can also be better for aperture! But …

page 10 Jan Uythoven AB/BT, LBDS meeting 18 May 2004 Or put MKQA on the other beam, in front of Q5 Instead of position > 46 m Q4 L, can put > 382 m to the right, is about 3 m right of Q5 At 382 m from Q4, beta-x = 145.6 m, beta-y = 579.3 m Is as putting it at the same position, but on the other beam !

page 11 Jan Uythoven AB/BT, LBDS meeting 18 May 2004 Check: Two beams give very similar results

page 12 Jan Uythoven AB/BT, LBDS meeting 18 May 2004 Vacuum chamber between Q4 and TCDS l Aperture calculations made assuming:: »Closed orbit 4 mm, alignment  0.5 mm »Additional  5 mm for vacuum chamber alignment (if possible) »Includes beta beating, tune adjustment, residual dispersion etc. »Stored beam n1 = 7; na = 1.22; nr = 1.4 »Extracted beam n1 = 6.5 (no halo) »Extracted beam MKD kick = 110 % * 0.275 mrad

page 13 Jan Uythoven AB/BT, LBDS meeting 18 May 2004 Proposed solution First bit l First 70 m: »Chamber with diameter of 100 mm »Assumption as given above:  9.5 mm total for alignment »5 mm off-set of centre of chamber »CHECH IF MKB SUPPORT PASSES Extracted beam o.k. up to 73.3 m Stored beam n1 >> 7

page 14 Jan Uythoven AB/BT, LBDS meeting 18 May 2004 Picture at 70 m from Q4

page 15 Jan Uythoven AB/BT, LBDS meeting 18 May 2004 Between 70 m and 124 m from exit Q4 l Same chamber D = 100 mm, but 25 mm off-set l Still 9.5 mm total in alignment tolerance Extracted o.k. up to 124.3 m Stored o.k. from 67 m onwards

page 16 Jan Uythoven AB/BT, LBDS meeting 18 May 2004 Between 124 m and entrance TCDS at 126.1 m l Same chamber but alignment tolerance tighter:  4  0.5  2 mm. Needs additional support. o.k. up to 133 m

page 17 Jan Uythoven AB/BT, LBDS meeting 18 May 2004 Entrance TCDS At 126.15 +0.35 = 126.5 m Closed orbit:  4 mm Alignment:  0.5 mm 110 % MKD kick exterior 100 % MKD kick interior Chamber just in front of TCDS
