Vallivue Football SARA “SARA” is a system of coverage's that incorporates different half-field coverage's vs. various offensive edges. This flexible system allows for the best coverage and run support possible against offensive formations. COVERAGES vs. OFFENSIVE EDGES  vs. SE only = LOCK (Also FOX or PRESS)  vs. TE or TE/Wing = BANJO  vs. TE/WR (Pro) = CONNIE  vs. Twin or Slot = SALLY

“LOCK” will be utilized to the side of a single wideout. In “LOCK”, the corner to the single receiver side will lock onto the receiver and be responsible for covering him man to man. The Hammer will align 9 x 3 off the OT. He will read through the OT to the #2 receiver. His action is determined by the release of #2, and mirror that of the Striker in “CONNIE”. The underneath defender, Will, will mirror the pattern of #2 at a depth of 10 yards. Should the receiver run an “in” route, the Will will squeeze (cautiously chase) this route and anticipate the next route. Should #2 run an “up” route (vertical), the Will will move laterally in order to re-route #2 and run with him to a depth of 10 yards, after which he will release him to the Hammer and attempt to get under the route of #1. Should #2 run an “out” route, the Will will mirror the route at a depth of 10 yards and convert to man to man coverage should #2 turn his route up the field (area 2 and up). “LOCK” TECHNIQUE

Vallivue Football #2 receiver blocks, the Will mirrors him at a depth of 10 yards. The Hammer doubles #1 who is being covered man to man by the Corner.

Vallivue Football #2 receiver runs an “in” route. The Will mirrors his route at a depth of 10 yards anticipating a new #2. The Hammer will double #1 while looking for a crosser. #2 receiver runs an “up” route. The Will re-routes him and runs with him vertically up to 10 yards, then drops off and tries to get underneath #1. The Hammer will cover #2 man to man.

Vallivue Football #2 receiver runs an “out” route. The Will mirrors his route at a depth of 10 yards. The Hammer will rob the route of #1. #2 receiver runs an “out” route. The Will mirrors his route at a depth of 10 yards. If #2 turns up the will must cover him man to man.

. “CONNIE” is the coverage that will be utilized vs. a TE and 1 receiver set. ALIGNMENT and ADJUSTMENTS Vs. a TE and 1 receiver set, the Corner will align at 8 to 9 yards deep and 1 yard inside #1. The Lion will align 2 x 2 off the TE (BASE), or split the difference between the TE and #1 (OVER). In OVER, the Lion will align tighter to the LOS vs. a wide split by #1, going no further that 6 yards outside the TE. The Striker will align directly over the TE at a depth of 8 to 9 yards. “CONNIE” TECHNIQUE

Vallivue Football When a CONNIE call is made, the Corner will be responsible for covering the outside receiver man to man, expecting no help on the post or other deep routes. The Striker will read the route of the TE. If the TE releases “outside”, the Striker will rob the route of #1. If the TE releases “deep” (over the drop of the LB’s, the Striker will cover him man to man. If the TE releases “shallow” (under the drop of the LB’s), drags inside, or pass blocks, the Striker will defend the deep ½ looking for crossing routes. If the Striker gets a run read from the TE/OT, he should drop to LB depth and fit off of the Lion/DE. The Lion will drop to area 1, or on top of any swing or arrow route (area 1 & up). He must carry, or cover, any out and up route by the TE. The Mike will work from area 3 to 2, and must cover the 3 rd receiver on any deep routes. Pass defenders responsible for shallow zones should re-route receivers by moving laterally to intercept receiver routes. READ PROGRESSION & RESPONSIBILITIES

Vallivue Football The TE runs an “out” route. The Lion mirrors his route at a depth of 10 yards. The Striker robs #1. The Mike works from area 3 to 2. The Lion must drop with depth with an out route by #2. If #2 turns up, the Lion must cover him man to man.

Vallivue Football The TE runs a “deep” route. The Striker will cover him man to man. The Lion jams the TE and drops to area 1. The Mike works from area 3 to 2. The TE runs a shallow “in” route. The Striker will zone the quarter and look for crossers. The Mike will carry the route and look for a new #2.

“SALLY” is the coverage that will be utilized vs. a twin set. This is a form of soft cover 2. ALIGNMENT and ADJUSTMENTS Vs. a twin set, the Corner will align 8 – 9 yards deep and 1 yard outside #1. The deep defender (could be Hammer, Striker, or the other Corner) will align head-up on #2 at a minimum of 12 yards deep. The underneath defender should split the difference horizontally between #2 and the OT at 5 yards deep, aligning closer to the LOS vs. a wide split by #2 and tighter to #2 vs. a tighter split. The underneath defender should align no wider than 6 yards outside the OT, and assume outside leverage on #2 when his alignment is within 5 yards of the OT. “SALLY” TECHNIQUE

Vallivue Football When a SALLY call is made, the Corner, as well as the deep defender aligned over #2, will read #2 to #1. The Corner must key #2 while seeing #1 with his peripheral vision. As long as #2 runs a deep route (over the top of the LB’s), the Corner will continue to stay on top of #1, covering him man to man while maintaining outside leverage. Should #2 run a shallow outside route, the corner will come off of #1 (squat) and defend the route of #2. The Corner will stay on #1 until he gets an “out” call from the deep defender. When in doubt, stay locked on to #1. The deep defender aligned over #2 will cover him man to man on any deep routes. Should #2 run an outside route, the deep defender will give an “out” call and then convert to man to man on #1. The underneath defender will drop to area 2, or on top of any swing or arrow route (area 2 & up). The defender aligned in the tackle box to the 2 receiver side (Mike or Will) will work from area 3 to 2. Pass defenders responsible for shallow zones should re-route receivers by moving laterally to intercept their route. READ PROGRESSION & RESPONSIBILITIES
