1 Tech Tip 1: Defragment your computer often to keep it from running slowly. Click “Start”, “Control Panel”, “Administrative Tools”, “Computer Management”, “Disk Defragmenter”, and “Defragment”.

2 Tech Tip 2: Use the key sequence “Ctrl A” to select all text in a document.

3 Tech Tip 3: Use the key sequence “Ctrl C” to copy text when selected.

4 Tech Tip 4: Use the key sequence “Ctrl V” to paste text that has been copied.

5 Tech Tip 5: Use the key sequence “Ctrl X” to cut text that has been selected.

6 Tech Tip 6: Use the key sequence “Ctrl P” to bring up your printer options.

13 Tech Tip 13: Use folders to organize your documents on your flash/external drives. Right-click amongst the files, click “New”, “Folder”, rename the folder, and then drag your files to add them to that folder.

14 Tech Tip 14: Remember to eject your flash drive before pulling it out of the USB port. Right-click the “Safely Remove Hardware” icon in the bottom-right corner of your computer. Choose the drive to eject; wait for confirmation to remove.

15 Tech Tip 15: Use the “Print Screen” key on your keyboard to take a “picture” of what you see on your screen.

16 Tech Tip 16: Keep your programs updated; this includes Adobe, Java, Flash Player, Microsoft Office, Windows, etc. Don’t forget your anti-virus program!

17 Tech Tip 17: When browsing the Internet, use the key sequence “Ctrl +” to increase your screen size.

20 Tech Tip 20: Clear your “Temporary Internet Files” and “Browsing History” to help keep your browsing speed at its maximum potential. Click “Start”, “Control Panel”, “Internet Options”, and on the “General” tab, click “Delete” under “Browsing History”.

21 Tech Tip 21: Use a cotton swab with alcohol on it to clean your keyboard keys and crevices. Use compressed air to clean the vents.

22 Tech Tip 22: Do NOT vacuum your computer.

23 Tech Tip 23: Remember to turn your computer off correctly by shutting it down from the “Start” menu.

24 Tech Tip 24: Use “Print Preview” or highlight a section and use print “Selection” to avoid printing a multi-page document.
