Wetland Habitats: EMWMF Haul Road Remediation In 2005 a large haul road was constructed that resulted in loss of wetlands. To compensate for those losses, new wetlands were created. Haul Road Remediation site

Wetland Habitats: EMWMF Haul Road Remediation An artificial channel was created to connect upper and lower Bear Creek, bypassing an old weir dam that had isolated the stream sections. The area behind the weir was filled to create a new wetland habitat. Artificial channel Old weir Remediated wetland

Wetland Habitats: EMWMF Haul Road Remediation Bear Creek A new stream section was designed to mimic existing Bear Creek.

Wetland Habitats: EMWMF Haul Road Remediation A new wetland was created by filling the old Bear Creek channel behind the weir.

Wetland Habitats: EMWMF Haul Road Remediation Vegetation established rapidly in the created wetland. July 2006 July 2007

Wetland Habitats: EMWMF Haul Road Remediation Monitoring in 2007 indicated rapid establish- ment of a diverse wetland plant community.

Wetland Habitats: EMWMF Haul Road Remediation Monitoring in 2008 indicated continued improve- ment in percent cover of remediated plots.

Wetland Habitats: EMWMF Haul Road Remediation Good survival and growth of planted tree and shrub sprigs continued in 2008.

Wetland Habitats: EMWMF Haul Road Remediation Site will continued to be monitored in the future. Hydrologic changes have resulted in some bypass of spring water to the wetland. Engineers will evaluate potential modifications to the existing flow paths to the wetland. Further management may be required to insure adequate hydrology and to control invasive plants.
