5 Segment Two: Important News Announcements GE deal with Boeing brings work to Port City. Report from Wayne Faulkner, StarNews Online. Wayne Faulkner Once finalized, the firm engine order – not counting the options – is valued at more than $1.3 billion at list price, CFM said. "A lot of the investment and growth in the Wilmington plant is driven by ramp-up in production for the LEAP engine, which will enter service next year," said spokeswoman Kelly Walsh. "Orders like these ensure continued work and long-term stability at our GE Aviation facility in Wilmington."

6 GE Aviation plans second engine-parts factory. Could it land in the Triad? “We’re building out our capability,” Bill Fitzgerald, vice president of commercial engine operations for GE Aviation, told Bloomberg. “We’re going to build an additional factory because we think we’re going to need that capacity, and we want to be well ahead of it.” Deb Case, a spokesman for GE Aviation, told the Triad Business Journal Monday that GE is "still very early in the process of establishing a second facility to manufacture ceramic matrix composites. The first CMC manufacturing facility in Asheville, North Carolina is set to open in January and hiring continues at that location."
