1 Our Mission Helping turn career dreams into reality TOPIC: Application processes in Higher Education Institutions A presentation to the National Congress & Annual General Meeting of the CEIA 24 – 26 October 2012

What does the application process entail?  Completing a form?  knowing how to complete the form?  knowing where to get a form?  knowing how and where to submit the form to?  knowing what happens after my form has been submitted? 2

If any of the foregoing, then… 3

If it is not just that, then… “What does it entail and when does the Applications process begin?” (Vygotsky’s Theory of Child Development)  The CAO sees the application process as a journey that starts at home, meanders along and has a number of milestones and Information Kiosks along the way.  For the majority of South Africans the journey is undertaken without a map or GPS. It is organisations such as the CEIA and CAO, and many others, to serve as the Information Kiosks along the way. 4

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?" "That depends a good deal on where you want to get to." "I don't much care where –" "Then it doesn't matter which way you go.”  Applicants with Physics and Math Lit980  Applicants with Accounts and Math Lit 3,679 5
