1 The Forgotten Sister Dede Mirabal

2 Dede Mirabal: The Forgotten Sister The story says, “She is plucking her bird of paradise of its dead branches, leaning around the plant every time she hears a car” (Alvarez 3). In this quote, Dede is seen as a tree that refuses to die. She consistently “plucks” herself of things that may deter of her goal of educating everyone about the heroic sacrifices of her sisters.

3 Dede Mirabal: The Forgotten Sister The story goes on to say, “The Mirabal sisters are not known there, for which she is also sorry for it is a crime that they should be forgotten, these unsung heroines of the underground” (Alvarez 3). The quote from the story shows that although many do not hear of her story, the survivor, she has committed her life to ensuring that all Dominicans know the story of the sacrifices made by her sisters.
