19
© Paradigm Publishing, Inc. 18 Objectives Insert Headers and Footers - continued By default, Word inserts a header and footer on every page in the document. You can create a unique header and/or footer for the first page and then insert different headers and/or footers on subsequent pages. In some situations you may want the first page header or footer to be blank. This is particularly useful if a document contains a title page and you do not want the header or footer to print at the top or bottom of the first page.

© Paradigm Publishing, Inc. 20 Objectives Insert Headers and Footers - continued When a document in book format has facing pages, the outside margin is the left side of the left page and the right side of the right page. In addition, the page at the right side is generally numbered with an odd page number and the page at the left side is generally numbered with an even page number. You can create odd and even headers and/or footers to provide this type of page numbering. Use the Different Odd & Even Pages check box in the Options group on the HEADER & FOOTER TOOLS DESIGN tab to create odd and even headers and/or footers.

23
© Paradigm Publishing, Inc. 22 Objectives Insert Headers and Footers - continued You can divide a document into sections and then apply different formatting in each section. You can insert a section break that begins a new page, insert a continuous section break that starts a new section on the same page, and insert a section break that starts a new section on the next even-numbered or odd-numbered page. If you want the pages in a document to have different headers and/or footers, divide the document into sections. When you create sections for each chapter in a document, insert a section break for each chapter that begins a new page.
24
© Paradigm Publishing, Inc. 23 Objectives Insert Headers and Footers - continued When a header or footer is created for a specific section in a document, the header or footer can be applied to all of the previous and subsequent sections or only the subsequent sections. By default, each section in a document is linked to the other sections. If you want a header or footer to print on only specific pages in a section and not pages in the previous or following sections, you must deactivate the Link to Previous button. Some of the page formatting that is applied to the header or footer text will also apply to the text in the document.
25

Click the Header or Footer button in the Header & Footer group. 4. Click Edit Header or Edit Footer at the drop-down list. 5. Click the Link to Previous button to deactivate. You can also identify specific pages within or between sections for printing. Pages text box
28
© Paradigm Publishing, Inc. 27 Objectives Keep Text Together In a multiple-page document, the soft page breaks automatically inserted by Word sometimes occur in undesirable locations. A soft page break may cause a heading to display at the bottom of a page while the text connected to the heading displays at the top of the next page. A soft page break can also create a widow or orphan. A widow occurs when the short last line of text in a paragraph appears at the top of a page, and an orphan occurs when the first line of text in a paragraph appears at the bottom of a page.
29
© Paradigm Publishing, Inc. 28 Objectives Keep Text Together - continued To keep text together: 1. Select the desired text. 2. Click the HOME tab. 3. Click the Paragraph group dialog box launcher. 4. Click the Line and Page Breaks tab. 5. Click the Keep with next, Keep lines together, and/or Page break before option. 6. Click OK. Control the location of page breaks in a document. Control the location of page breaks in a document.
30
© Paradigm Publishing, Inc. 29 Objectives Keep Text Together - continued By default, the Widow/Orphan control option is active and Word tries to avoid creating widows and orphans when inserting soft page breaks. Use the Keep with next option to keep one line of text together with the next line. This is useful for keeping a heading together with the first line below it. To keep a group of selected lines together, use the Keep lines together option. Use the Page break before option to insert a page break before selected text.
