1) Treat others as God has treated us. 2) Forgiven people should forgive. 3) Receivers should be givers. 4) Leaders should lead themselves. 5) Good trees should produce good fruit. 6) Truth plus obedience is a solid foundation.

“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you.” (Luke 6:37-38a) 2) Forgiven people should forgive. Synonymous parallelism (stating the same thing two ways) Antithetic parallelism (stating the opposite of what was just said)

κρ ί νω (krino)- “judge” to determine, resolve, decree. to pronounce an opinion concerning right and wrong. root word of critic, incriminate and discriminate. “No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit.” (Luke 6:43-44a) 2) Forgiven people should forgive.

It is impossible to determine the quality of fruit without making a judgment (or evaluation, determination or discernment) based upon known criteria.

▪ We are not to take God’s place in pronouncing final judgment (condemnation) upon anyone. ▪ We must still make moral discernments about thoughts, words, acts and other people. ▪ We should not be judgmental, i.e., act as the moral police for everyone around us. 2) Forgiven people should forgive.

The Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. “In the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” They were using this question as a trap…[Jesus] said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus…asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.” (John 8:3-11) Jesus judged her behavior but did not condemn the woman. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.” (John 8:3-11)

ἀ πολ ύ ω (apolyo)- “forgive” to give up, keep no longer, dismiss. to let go free, release. “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (Matthew 6:14-15) 2) Forgiven people should forgive.

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38) 1) Treat others as God has treated us. 2) Forgiven people should forgive. 3) Receivers should be givers.

“For with the measure you use (measure with), it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38) μ έ τρον (metron)- “measure” an instrument for measuring. μετρ έ ω (metreo)- “use ” to measure, apportion. ἀ ντιμετρ έ ω (antimetreo)- “measure” to measure in return, repay.

“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.” (II Corinthians 9:6) 3) Receivers should be givers. “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” (Galatians 6:7-8)

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38) 3) Receivers should be givers.

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38) 3) Receivers should be givers.

“Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them?” (Romans 11:35) 3) Receivers should be givers.

1) Treat others as God has treated us. 2) Forgiven people should forgive. 3) Receivers should be givers. 4) Leaders should lead themselves. He told them this parable: “No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one… And no one pours new wine into old wineskins.” (Luke 5:36-37)

4) Leaders should lead themselves. He also told them this parable: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit? The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher. “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” (Luke 6:39-42)

4) Leaders should lead themselves. The disciples asked, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended by this?” He replied, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots. Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.” (Matthew 5:12-14) “The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.” (Luke 6:40) ► This is a warning to leaders of God’s people. ► This is a warning to choose carefully whom we follow. “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites…Woe to you, blind guides!” (Matthew 23:15-16)

4) Leaders should lead themselves. You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye…” “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? κ ά ρφος (karphos)- “speck” a twig or stalk. δοκ ό ς (dokos) - “plank” a large wooden beam.
