To Kill a Mockingbird Chapter 27 Book by : Harper Lee Team Atticus Presentation by: Tae Dooley

Symbolism Example- Aunt Alexandra Explanation- Aunt Alexandra serves as a symbol for justice and peace. Throughout the chapter she talks about how Bob Ewell is being rude and unfair because he continues to drag out his hatred for the Finch family and Helen Robinson, even after the case.

Imagery! Example- “The Ewell’s home is always filled with childrens faces peeking through the windows.” Explanation- you can imagine in your head the image of the windows filled with small children running about and peeking through at the world outside.

Setting Example- mostly at the Ewell home for then first half, then later in the chapter the setting changes to being at the Finch household Explanation- Helen was being harrassed by Bob Ewell when she walked to work, so Link Deas walks her to the Ewell home and tells Bob to leave Helen alone or deal with serious legal issues. At the Finch house, Alexandra talks about Bob Ewell’s issue with holding a grudge, and she expresses that he shouldn’t be threatening people after the case is already dealt with.

Theme Example- people shouldn’t hold a grude against people because it can cause trouble in the community. Explanation- Bob Ewell is sending threats to Atticus and his family, and hollering rude things at Helen Robinson. Its causing a lot of discomfort in the area and everyone wants it resolved

Foreshadowing Example: “Bob Ewell seems to have a permanent grudge against that case” Explanation: Atticus Finch is a main part of that case, so we can assume that Bob may try and get revenge or harm Atticus.

Characterization Example- Bob Ewell, Helen Robinson, Link Deas, and Aunt Alexandra. Explanation- Bob Ewell: a rude insensitive man. Bob doesn’t care about anyone around him, he hollers threats and rude statements throughout the story. Helen Robinson: a kind lady that tries her best to avoid a dangerous situation. She doesn’t want to add to the hardships and drama in Maycomb. Link Deas: someone who genuinely cares about the feelings of others, he doesn’t let people boss others around, and stands up for people who cant stand up for themselves Aunt Alexandra: outspoken and opinionated. Isnt afraid to let others know how she feels about a certain subject
