The DutchGrid Platform Collaboration of projects from –Computer Science, HEP and service providers Participating and supported projects –Virtual Laboratory (national, 1999-2002 +follow-up) –Computer Science distributed cluster computer DAS-2 (national, 2002–) –EU DataGrid –EU DataTAG –D0 Grid Coordination is primary goal → resource sharing between different projects

Various Deliverables Security for local centres and the Grid at large –WP4 Gridification –IRTF AAAARCH research group –policy languages –inter-domain AAA protocol (for resource co-allocation) Large test bed taken from many organizations –see resource overview Applications –Common Application Toolkit architecture for LHC –VO support –Extensive Grid support for developers in experiments

Collaborating projects Virtual Laboratory for E-Science (VL-E) –information management mechanisms for Grid –application focus (LHC and meteorology to genomics) EU DataGrid/DataTAG –WP4: fabric management Gridification –WP7: networking, “own” 2.5 Gbit via SURFnet –WP8: Common Application Toolkit architecture Security work –Cert Authorities, Authorization, distributed AAA –standardization liaisons: IRTF, GGF –collaboration with industry in new proposals –components from Virtual Lab + other national projects

DutchGrid test beds KNMI Nijmegen Delft Leiden Amsterdam VU WCW Utrecht ASTRON Telin NIKHEF SARA UvA AMOLF DutchGrid site map 2001.06.26 David Groep, NIKHEF

Current resources for LHC Grid Dedicated resources for (Data)Grid –180 CPUs (PIII-1GHz) at NIKHEF –~ 20 TByte at SARA (national HPC service provider) –2x 1Gbit/s via SURFnet to Géant –experimental 2.5 Gbit/s to StarLIGHT Available additional resources –400 CPUs (PIII-1GHz) from University CS departments (DAS-2) Development and support –5 full-time staff at NIKHEF, ~2 fte at SARA more expertise at UvA (in DataTAG) and CS depts
