5 Puritans What: Group of individuals from England who were persecuted for their beliefs and decided to move to the New World for religious freedom When: 1620 (Plymouth) 1630 (Mass. Bay) Significance: Brought Protestantism to America as well as the idea of religious freedom

6 Mayflower Compact What: Agreement made by Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower that said everyone would obey the same laws When: 1620 Significance: Set a precedent for self-government in New England and also allowed Plymouth to survive
