Reading: Luke 1:46-53 And Mary said: My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord And my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour… From now onwards All generations will call me blessed For the Almighty has done great things for me… He has used the power of his arm, He has routed the arrogant of heart. He has pulled down princes from their thrones And raised high the lowly. He has filled the starving with good things, Sent the rich away empty.

Millions of people around the world are taking part, asking for global change so that everyone can live healthier, happier lives

600 million children around the world live in extreme poverty

Each year over 10 million children die of hunger and preventable diseases – one every 3 seconds

Many poorer countries pay so much money in debt repayments that they cannot afford to provide things like paved roads and enough housing

Global economic systems mean that farmers in poorer countries find it hard to make enough money from their crops

More than 100 million children around the world miss out on school

It would cost around £3 billion a year for every child in the world to go to school

At a speech in Trafalgar Square, Nelson Mandela told children “you can be that great generation”

We pray for all those with the courage to think differently, the strength to turn the world upside down. We pray that we may be inspired, like them, into action. Lord in Your Mercy…… Hear our prayer

We pray for those in government, and those in positions of power and leadership. May they always seek the good of all. Lord in Your Mercy…… Hear our prayer

We pray for the wealthy, that they may always remember what the world looks like the other way up - from the point of view of those living in poverty and act accordingly. Lord in Your Mercy…… Hear our prayer

We pray for ourselves, that we may not be satisfied with apathy, or be passive and afraid of change. Grant us the courage to challenge what is unjust. Lord in Your Mercy…… Hear our prayer
