7. Hero Netherfield Hero is the main character. She is the one who finds the diamond [with Danny] behind the porch light. She is the new kid at school and only has 3 friends [Miriam, Danny Cordova, and Aaron.] Also, she has an older sister Beatrice, a mom and a dad who live in Shakespeare’s poems (not literally!). Finally, she lives in the Murphy Diamond house.

8. Miriam Roth/Murphy Mrs. Roth is a key character in the book. She was married to Arthur Murphy who owned the Murphy Diamond house. (not any more). She has little clues that help them find the diamond. She has an adopted daughter named Anna who ran away when she was younger. It turns out that Anna is Danny’s mother which makes Mrs. Roth Danny’s grandmother.

9. Danny Cordova Danny is an eighth grader at the local Jr. high, (he is the most popular and hottest eighth grader at their school.) He finds the Murphy Diamond with Hero. His dad is a policeman, who has facts about the diamond.
