BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT  Public Domain Geospatial Data  Exploding information  Heterogeneity  Highly dynamic  Spatial Information Literacy  Recognize the information needs  Know how to find and use the information

OUTLINES  LibGuide Background  Purdue University LibGuide  Harvest Program  Methodology  Metadata  Results  Conclusions and Application

 LibGuide Background  Purdue University LibGuide  Harvest Program  Methodology  Metadata  Results  Conclusions and Application

 Objectives  Collect public domain geospatial data  Create user-friendly databases to download GIS resources  Time saving LIBGUIDE BACKGROUND (1/3 ) Spatial Data GeoPortal University Lirbareies Government Websites Our Databases Our Databases Researchers Students Geoscientists Geography Educators Geography Educators Governors Consulting firms

 “LibGuides is an easy to use Content Management System used by many thousands of libraries worldwide.”----The Most Popular Web Publishing Platform for Libraries  Add, Reuse, Share LIBGUIDE BACKGROUND (2/3 ) Content in LibGuides LibGuides’ API & Widgets Websites, Blogs Discovery, Layer Courseware, LMS Facebook, Twitter, Social media

METHODOLOGY(1 / 2 )  My SQL  HeidiSQL is a useful and reliable tool to access MySQL database.MySQL  It enables you to browse and edit data, create and edit tables, views, procedures, triggers and scheduled events.  Manually submitted data from the 50 states and themes  The system will automatically extracted downloadable files  User-friendly, without crossing traditional lists  The system will extract metadata simultaneously  Statistics results on metadata, websites frequency showed up in other libraries, as well as GIS states and theme data discovery results

METHODOLOGY(2 / 2 )

 LibGuide Background  Purdue University LibGuide  Harvest Program  Methodology  Metadata  Results  Conclusions and Application

METADATA(1/ 4) What is Metadata?  “Metadata is critical for sharing tools, data, and maps and for searching to see if the resources you need already exist. Metadata describes geographic information system (GIS) resources in the same way a card in a library's card catalog describes a book. Once you've found a resource with a search, its metadata will help you decide whether it's suitable for your purposes. To make this decision, you may need to know how accurate or current the resource is and if there are any restrictions on how it can be used. Metadata can answer these questions.”----ESRI Support key words search in our database

 Metadata Availability in 5 categories  Metadata could be extracted and saved on our server (1)  Metadata is included in the zip file (2)  Metadata is somewhere on the web but can't be extracted in 1 (3)  Metadata doesn't exist (4)  URL doesn't exist (5) METADATA(2/4 )

Metadata could be extracted and saved on our server. Metadata is included in the zip file. Metadata is somewhere on the web but can't be extracted in 1. Metadata doesn't exist. URL doesn't exist. METADATA(3/ 4)
