‘The Voice’ Group 4

Agenda Assessment of the ‘Voice Thrust’ Analysis of the dimensions of ‘the voice thrust’ –Improved information flow –Improving capacity of network members –Effective positioning of FANRPAN Involvement in CAADP Possible leaders and sources of support for ‘the voice thrust’ Suggestions for strengthening FANRPAN

Assessment of the ‘Voice’ Thrust Execution of the three dimensions will achieve ‘the Voice thrust’ The ‘Voice’ thrust will make a positive change to FANRPAN –Organisation (Corporate brand) –Outputs (Research Reports and Recommendations) –People (Secretariat and nodes)

Analysis of the dimensions Improved Information flows All identified tasks are vital, and there is need to guarantee ‘cross – sharing’ of information between and amongst nodes Vast information at regional/nodal level is not being shared Need to define communications tasks for regional and nodal staff, and establish minimum expectations for reporting

Improving capacity of network members All identified tasks are vital, and there is need to ensure methods for best practice transfer between/amongst nodes Improved funding and resources to the nodes Capacitation of node personnel in areas of documentation and information dissemination Establishment of partnerships and information dissemination fora Assessment of the ‘Voice’ Thrust

Effective positioning of FANRPAN Focus on SADC and COMESA vital, but need to improve image in the eyes of a broader spectrum of stakeholders Position FANRPAN as ‘preferred’ policy research institution Assessment of the ‘Voice’ Thrust

Effective positioning of FANRPAN Improving relations with SADC/COMESA –Public Relations strategy to be implemented using eminent persons at FANRPAN’s disposal –Establish joint research projects with SADC and COMESA FANR directorates –Integration of targeted SADC/COMESA personnel to FANRPAN board of governors –Integration of related programmes Collaboration with other regional bodies working on FANR Assessment of the ‘Voice’ Thrust

Involvement in CAADP FANRPAN must assume a central role –Present region-wide research proposal to enhance CAADP implementation –Public Relations and lobbying with eminent persons (Need to establish database of critical/eminent people in/outside FANRPAN)

Suggestions for strengthening FANRPAN Need to establish database of critical/eminent people in/outside FANRPAN Critical self assessment –Where does FANRPAN draw its legitimacy? –On whose behalf does FANRPAN speak? (CONSTITUENCY) –To whom does FANRPAN speak? (TARGET AUDIENCE)

Suggestions for strengthening FANRPAN Critical self assessment –Where does FANRPAN draw its legitimacy? –On whose behalf does FANRPAN speak? (CONSTITUENCY) –To whom does FANRPAN speak? (TARGET AUDIENCE)
