2.  This week we will look at four studies regarding the Holy Spirit o Born of the Spirit o Indwelling of the Spirit o The Baptism of the Spirit o The Filling of the Spirit  We are going to walk through the highlights as we learn about the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. 2

3. Time Baptism of the Holy Spirit Occurs when a person invites Jesus into their heart. Luke 3:16 John answered and said to them all, "As for me, I baptize you with water; but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the thong of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. (NASU) This one-time event occurs when we are Born Again

4. Time Continual Indwelling The Indwelling of the Holy Spirit starts at the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and continues until death. 1 Cor 3:16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? Rom 8:9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

5. Time Continual Indwelling The Sealing of the Holy Spirit occurs at the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and continues on forever. Sealing Eph 1:13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation -- having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,

6. Time Continual Indwelling The filling of the Holy spirit is a moment by moment occurrence where self is dethroned and the spirit is given control. Sealing Eph 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit, KJV. Self Spirit Confessed sin

7.  The filling of the Holy Spirit is the only aspect of His presence that we are commanded to do  The filling of the Holy Spirit is o Having all known sin confessed o Turning away from self-centered living o Allowing the Holy Spirit to have control o Letting the Spirit be in the “driver’s seat” o Letting the Spirit be on the throne of your heart  So how do you get filled?

8.  You must want to be directed and empowered by the Holy Spirit  Confess your sins.  By faith thank God that He has forgiven all of your sins - past, present and future  By faith claim the fullness of the Holy Spirit  Invite the Holy Spirit to take control of your life

9. Filling is not necessarily something that you feel. – It’s not like getting in swimming pool where you feel the water Filling is an act of your choice and of faith. Results of filling should be noticeable to others and to you.

10.  Consider John 15: 5-6 o John 15:5-6 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. 6 "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned. NASB  We can do nothing apart from Him  He’ll pass you by (like a dried up branch) to look for others who choose to abide in Him.

11.  Commanded o Eph 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit, KJV. o The Key to Power o Acts 1:8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…  The Basis of fruitful Living o Gal 5:19-21

12.  Exhale o Confess your sin – o Agree with God concerning your sin o Thank Him for His forgiveness of it o Repentance - a change in attitude and action.  Inhale o Surrender the control of your life to Christ o Meditate on the fullness of the Holy Spirit by faith. o Trust that He now directs and empowers you

13. Fear of God
