Proverbs 13:20 16 These six things the L ORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: 17 A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, 19 A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren. Proverbs 13:20 The x and x+1 formula does not suggest an exhaustive list it is a literary device that parallels the first in the set and the last item is the summation, culmination or perfection of the list. Proverbs 13:20 False witness that speaks lies- literally breathes out lies In view is the sin of perjury whereby a person who has access to the truth purposefully lies bringing hurt and consequence to an innocent party Proverbs 19:5 “A false witness will not go unpunished, and whoever pours out lies will not go free” Proverbs 19:9 “…will perish” PROUD TONGUE HANDS HEART FEET FALSE WITNESS

Proverbs 13:20 who sows discord among brethren In Proverbs this is closely associated with the contentious or quarrelsome person (21:9, 26:21, 25:24) This 7 th “abominable” sin is the culmination of the previous 6 hated sins. The contentious person who causes discord puts himself in dire straights! Matthew 5:23-24-Be reconciled before you worship! Psalm 133:1-How good and pleasant peace is!
