How to conduct a Thermometer experiment By Luka
2
AIM: Is to investigate how to make a thermometer at home with just everyday house-hold needs.
3
Materials: 1.1 Glass Bottle filled with cold water 2.1 bottle of food colouring 3.A jug of boiled water 4.1 oven mitt 5.1 big straw that you can see through 6.A handful of modeling clay 7.A container of ice 8.1 large container
4
Method: 1.Firstly, grab the glass bottle and fill the bottle near to the top with cold water. Then add a lot of food colouring to the cold water. 2.Then place a see through straw in the bottle. Seal the straw with the modeling clay so it is tightly sealed and sticks up in the middle. 3.Grab the large container and fill the large container with the boiling hot water. 4.Put the bottle in the large container and watch what happens. 5.Now take the bottle out of the container and empty the container. Place the ice into the container and put the bottle back in. Watch what happens
5
Result: When you put the bottle sealed with clay in the hot water the water comes out of the straw. But when you place into a container of ice the water comes down.
6
Conclusion: When you put the glass in the hot water, the water comes out of the straw because the molecules are jumping around and the only way it can come out is through the straw because the bottle is sealed with clay. When you put the bottle in the ice it does the exact opposite and the molecules don’t jump at all and sink down to the bottom.
