Motor Leveling MECH 1200 Soft foot Condition: One or more of the mounting feet is not level with the others. Nuts loosen, vibration, misalignment Metal fatigue, causing cracks

Motor Leveling MECH 1200 Initial Corrections to Soft Foot: Clean where the feet will rest Set the machine in place Attempt to pass a thin feeler gauge under each foot, If it can fit beneath it, determine gap size and place a shim. Final Corrections to Soft Foot: Tighten motor mounting nuts Place a dial indicator vertically above the foot that you are checking. Set indicator to zero and watch the dial for movement (repeat to others if necessary) Shim if larger than.002 for large motors, and.010 for small motors

Motor Leveling MECH 1200 Shaft Run-Out Measure by placing a dial indicator on the shaft and rotating the shaft. Total variation is called the total indicator reading (TIR). If the run out is greater than 0.002 inches, motor should not be used. Shaft may be bent or bearings are worn. End Float Movement along the x-axis Measure by placing indicator on the end of the shaft Typical end float is 0.001 inches

Motor Leveling MECH 1200 Motor Leveling 1)Place level on top of the motor shaft 2) place one of more of the leaves of a feeler gauge under one end of the level which are necessary to make the horizontal bubble centered 3)Find the ratio of the distance between the centers of the motor mounting bolts and the length between on end of the level and the edge of the feeler gauge. 4)Multiply the feeler gauge leaf thickness by ratio in step #3 5)Shim under the low end of the motor by the amount in step #4

Motor Leveling MECH 1200 Motor Mounting Procedure 1)Clean motor base and other surfaces 2)Check and correct initial soft foot 3)Position motor over holes on bedplate 4)Attach bolts, nuts and washers. (Criss-Cross) 5)Check for final soft foot 6)Tighten bolts again 7)Level the motor end to end 8)Check the motor for run-out and end float
