3 Psalm 27:1-7 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the defense of my life; whom shall I dread? When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, My adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell. Though a host encamp against me, my heart will not fear; Though war arise against me, in spite of this I shall be confident. One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, and to meditate in His temple.

4 For in the day of trouble
He will conceal me in His tabernacle; In the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock. And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me; And I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord. Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice, And be gracious to me and answer me.

6 Exodus 25:31-40 The Golden Lampstand You shall make a lampstand of pure gold. The lampstand and its base and its shaft are to be made of hammered work; its cups, its bulbs and its flowers shall be of one piece with it. “And six branches shall go out from its sides; three branches of the lampstand from its one side, and three branches of the lampstand from its other side.

7 “Three cups shall be shaped like almond blossoms in the one branch, a bulb and a flower, and three cups shaped like almond blossoms in the other branch, a bulb and a flower—so for six branches going out from the lampstand; and in the lampstand four cups shaped like almond blossoms, its bulbs and its flowers. “And a bulb shall be under the first pair of branches coming out of it, and a bulb under the second pair of branches coming out of it, and a bulb under the third pair of branches coming out of it, for the six branches coming out of the lampstand.

8 “Their bulbs and their branches shall be of one piece with it; all of it shall be one piece of hammered work of pure gold. “Then you shall make its lamps seven in number; and they shall mount its lamps so as to shed light on the space in front of it. “And its snuffers and their trays shall be of pure gold. “It shall be made from a talent of pure gold, with all these utensils. “And see that you make them after the pattern for them, which was shown to you on the mountain.”

21 The Feast of Dedication (Hanukkah)
Is a victory over Gentile domination of might.

22 The Differences between
The Jewish New Years And The Gentile New Years

23 The Jewish New Year coincides with Rosh Hashanah, The Feast of Trumpets
The Gentile New Year coincides with the Winter Solstice.

24 The Jewish New Year involves an entire day of worship. The Gentile New Year involves a night of parties associated with drunkenness.

25 The Jewish New Year Involves introspection and seeking forgiveness and absolving sins. The Gentile New Year involves predictions and future resolutions and making commitments.

26 The Jewish New Year Involves eating apples and honey for a sweet year. The Gentile New Year involves eating black eye peas and hog jowl, for whatever reason.

27 ….you are this head of gold.
Daniel 2:32 God Reveals Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream 32 This image’s head was of fine gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay. 34 You watched while a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces. 36 “This is the dream. Now we will tell the interpretation of it before the king. 37 You, O king, ….you are this head of gold.

28 4 Gentile Kingdoms will arise
39 But after you shall arise another kingdom inferior to yours; then another, a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth. 40 And the fourth kingdom shall be as strong as iron, inasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and shatters everything; and like iron that crushes, that kingdom will break in pieces and crush all the others. 4 Gentile Kingdoms will arise

29 Ancient Empires

30 Babylonian Empire Median Empire Mediterranean Babylonian Empire Egypt
Judah Babylonian Empire Median Empire Mediterranean Egypt Babylonian Empire Babylon was based in what is now the southern part of the country of Iraq. Babylon was first an important power in about 1850 BC and then later in about 650 BC when they overcame the Assyrian empire. Although the oldest known alphabet comes from the Canaanites, the oldest known writing comes from the Babylonians. DISCUSSION QUESTION: What prophet of God was taken captive by the Babylonians? What happened to him in Babylonia? The book of Daniel tells us “1:1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it. 2 And the Lord delivered Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, along with some of the articles from the temple of God. These he carried off to the temple of his god in Babylonia and put in the treasure-house of his god. 3 Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, chief of his court officials, to bring in some of the Israelites from the royal family and the nobility young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king's palace. He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians. 5 The king assigned them a daily amount of food and wine from the king's table. They were to be trained for three years, and after that they were to enter the king's service. 6 Among these were some from Judah: Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah . . .” Thus the story of the capture of Judah by the Babylonians is related to the story of Daniel. King Nebuchadnezzar boasted of his greatness in Daniel 4 and God struck him down. Later, Belshazzar became king. Finally, The Persians conquered the Babylonian empire. The Babylonian religion was polytheistic. They have a story of a great flood and a family that escaped with animals in a great boat that closely follows the flood story in the Bible. INDEX

31 Persian Empire Persian Empire Mediterranean Egypt Judah INDEX
The Persian empire first became prominent about 550 BC when King Cyrus conquered the Babylonian empire. Daniel was in exile in Babylon when the Persians conquered that city. Cyrus allowed many Jews to return to their homeland. Esther became queen to king Xerxes I. The Jews were allowed to take back many temple treasures and rebuild the temple as described in the stories of Exra and Nehemiah. The Persians controlled lands from Egypt to as far as India and as far north as modern day Turkey. They held their empire for about 200 years. In 333 BC, Alexander the great defeated them. Persian religion was based on the life of a herdsman. INDEX

32 Alexander The Great Greek Empire
Judah The Empire of Alexander India Mediterranean Egypt Although Alexander the Great is not mentioned in the Bible. The effects of his empire made great impact on the New Testament. Greek became the language of business and ultimately the language that the New Testament was written in. INDEX

36 44 And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it (the Stone) shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.

39 Vision of a Ram and a Goat The Goat overtakes the the Ram.
Daniel 8:8 8 Therefore the male goat grew very great; but when he became strong, the large horn was broken, and in place of it four notable ones came up toward the four winds of heaven. 9 And out of one of them came a little horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Glorious Land. 10 And it grew up to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and some of the stars to the ground, and trampled them. 11 He even exalted himself as high as the Prince of the host; and by him the daily sacrifices were taken away, and the place of His sanctuary was cast down. 12 Because of transgression, an army was given over to the horn to oppose the daily sacrifices; and he cast truth down to the ground. He did all this and prospered.

40 Greece was divided into Four Horn (Regions)
Daniel 8:9 And out of one of them came a little horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Glorious Land. Greece was divided into Four Horn (Regions) Thrace Macedonia Egypt Syria

41 Antioch Epiphanies Antiochus IV, ruled from 175 until 164 b.c. During his reign there was a Jewish squabble for the high priesthood on the part of Jason and Menelaus, and because of their misbehavior Antiochus visited Jerusalem in 169 and insisted on entering the holy of holies, and carried off some of the gold and silver vessels. Pressure from Egypt convinced him of the necessity to Hellenize the Jews.

42 Antioch Epiphanies Measures against the Jewish religion were brutal and resulted in the cessation of the sacrifices in the Temple and the erection of a Greek altar on the site of the old one on 25 December 167. The revolt led by Mattathias of the house of Hashmon and his 5 sons led to the rededication of the Temple just 3 years later. Antiochus minted coins with his image and the title he called himself (Theos) Epiphanies ‘(god) manifest’, died on campaign in Media in 164.

45 REVELATION 1:12 12 Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. 14 His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; 15 His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters; 16 He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength.

46 20 The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands (A Menorah): The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands which you saw are the seven churches.

47 The Glory of the New Jerusalem Revelation 21:22
22 ….I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. 24 And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. 25 Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there). 26 And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it.
