3. Once upon a time, there was a poor woman she had a son, who didn’t like working, he only loved tending the geese on the medow. That’s how his name became Mattie the Goose-boy.

4. Once his mother sent Mattie to the market of Döbrög, to sell the 16 geese, which were big enough. The local wicked lord Döbrögi also came to the market. Although he was very rich, he wanted to get hold of the geese for free.

5. When Mattie claimed his money for the geese, Lord Döbrögi ordered his servants to punish Mattie with 50 beating with a stick to his back. He ordered all the servants and guards to clear the forest, he then lured Döbrögi away, tied him to a tree with a rope, and beat him for the first time.

9. The lord was found only by the evening and became ill because of the beating. This time Mattie dressed as a German battlefield medic. He was brought to the lord and ordered to cure him. He sent the whole folk of the castle out to the nearby field to collect some special herbs. While everybody was out harvesting, Mattie gave Döbrögi the second revenge. 10. A few years went by and again, there was a market in Döbrög. Mattie bargained with a horse-dealer, to buy his horse, if it is fast enough.

11. Mattie asked the man, to shout loudly „I am Mattie the Goose-boy” and then ride away with the horse, as fast as he can.

12. The landlord arrived on his fancy coach. For the voice of the horse-dealer he sent all of his servants to chase him. „Catch Mattie the Goose-boy!”- he shouted furiously. When he was left alone, he publicly got his last third of punishment, as Mattie beat him for the last time.

13. Mattie has been remembered eversince, as a hero, who stood up for the truth against the potentate and could win.
