Transformed, not Conformed: “Mirror, Mirror” Northside Mission Church (24-Jun-2012)

Our Proclamation Psalms 116:1-2, 5-7 1 I love the Lord, because He has heard My voice and my supplications. 2 Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live. 5 Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; Yes, our God is merciful. 6 The Lord preserves the simple; I was brought low, and He saved me. 7 Return to your rest, O my soul, For the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.

1.Both the mind and heart play a vital role in man’s thoughts 2.The 3 different mindsets are: the carnal, the spiritual and the double-minded 3.We have the responsibility of choosing what we think about (see Deut. 30:19, Prov. 4:23) 4.Spiritual weapons as prayer, a thankful attitude and the Word of God help us think right thoughts 5.The Blu-ray / DVD player – change the disk! Review

Transformed, not Conformed Romans 12:1-2 NKJV I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

“Created in His Image” Genesis 1:27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them Image of God – does not refer to God’s ‘physical form’. God is Spirit (see John 4:4) – concerning man being created in God’s image, this refers to man’s ability to think and make moral decisions

“Created in His Image” (read Genesis 3) Because of Man’s sin (both Adam & Eve), the image of God in man has become distorted and corrupted Romans 5:12 Says, “Through one man [Adam] sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned” Even though man is sinful, the Bible still considers man to have the “image of God” (see Genesis 9:6 and James 3:9)

“Recreated in Christ’s Image” Colossians 1:15 He [Jesus Christ] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. Romans 5:18-19 Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

“Recreated in Christ’s Image” Romans 8:29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Summorphos (in Greek) – figuratively “jointly formed”, being united in form and being brought to complete conformity Summorphos -> (“x”+ man)*growth= Image of Christ! Suschematizo -> (World)/(man)= worldly image, worldly image, worldly image, etc.

“Seeing and Reflecting” 2 Corinthians 3:18 NLT So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image (that is, Jesus). Katoptrizomai (in Greek) – means both “seeing” (“beholding”) and “reflecting” Listen - We become what we behold!

“God loves.. God hates…” Psalms 11:5,7 The LORD tests the righteous, but the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates. For the LORD is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright Psalms 37:28 For the LORD loves justice, and does not forsake His saints; They are preserved forever, but the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off

“God loves.. God hates…” Psalms 33:5 He (the LORD) loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. Proverbs 6:16-19 – Seven things the LORD hates: 1) A proud look 2) A lying tongue 3) Hands that shed innocent blood 4) A heart that devises wicked plans 5) Feet that are swift in running to evil 6) A false witness who speaks lies 7) One who sows discord among brethren

“God loves.. God hates…” Malachi 2:16a The LORD says, “He hates divorce, for it covers one’s garment with violence” Revelation 2:6,15 (To the Ephesian church) But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. (To the Pergamos church) Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.

Q1. What is in your heart? Ezekiel 14:3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts, and put before them that which causes them to stumble into iniquity. Should I let Myself be inquired of at all by them? Colossians 3:2 AMP And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth

Q2. Who is in your heart? Psalms 119:11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You John 14:23-24a If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me

Ephesians 5:1 Therefore, be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God
