When it comes to our finances, we can be intelligent and make good decisions…

…Or we can be foolish and make poor decisions!

The book of Proverbs speaks repeatedly of two kinds of people

The first is a righteous, diligent and wise person

The second is a wicked, lazy fool!

Righteous Diligent Wise Righteous Diligent Wise Satisfied Successful Secure Satisfied Successful Secure

Wicked Lazy Fool Wicked Lazy Fool Selfish Sorry Stupid Selfish Sorry Stupid

WHICH ONE DO YOU WANT TO BE?

Remember… Smart has two basic meanings! Intelligent Stingingly Painful Intelligent Stingingly Painful

Proverbs 6:6-11 6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

Proverbs 6:6-11 7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

Proverbs 6:6-11 8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

Proverbs 6:6-11 9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

Proverbs 6:6-11 10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

Proverbs 6:6-11 11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

Which “SMART” will you be concerning money?

“I want to be intelligent when it comes to money”

“I want to be satisfied, successful and secure”

If you want to have some serious “Money Smarts,” you must say ‘yes’ to some things, and you must say ‘no’ to some other things!

1. Yes! I will be TEACHABLE! Proverbs 8:10-11 10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. Receive God’s Instruction

1. Yes! I will be TEACHABLE! Proverbs 8:10-11 11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it. Receive God’s Instruction

1. Yes! I will be TEACHABLE! Proverbs 13:18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured. Regard Reproof

1. Yes! I will be TEACHABLE! Proverbs 13:18 House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD. Realize where financial blessings come from

2. Yes! I will be DILIGENT! Proverbs 10:4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich. Working hard pays

2. Yes! I will be DILIGENT! Proverbs 14:4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox. Working hard pays

To avoid the ‘stingingly painful’ realities of mismanaged finances, you must be willing to say ‘NO!’ to some things…

1. To IMPULSE BUYING Proverbs 19:2 Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.

1. To IMPULSE BUYING Proverbs 21:5 The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.

2. To CO-SIGNING Proverbs 6:1-2 1 My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger, (obligating yourself to someone else’s debt)

2. To CO-SIGNING Proverbs 6:1-2 2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth. (obligating yourself to someone else’s debt)

2. To CO-SIGNING Proverbs 11:15 He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hateth suretiship is sure. (obligating yourself to someone else’s debt)

3. To EXCESSIVE INTEREST Proverbs 28:8 He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

4. To GET RICH QUICK SCHEMES Proverbs 28:19 He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.

5. To NEGLECT Proverbs 24:30-34 30 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

5. To NEGLECT Proverbs 24:30-34 31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

5. To NEGLECT Proverbs 24:30-34 32 Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.

5. To NEGLECT Proverbs 24:30-34 33 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

5. To NEGLECT Proverbs 24:30-34 34 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.

Listen To JESUS Luke 12:16-21 16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: 17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?

Listen To JESUS Luke 12:16-21 18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

Listen To JESUS Luke 12:16-21 20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? 21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

Listen To JESUS 2 Corinthians 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

Listen To JESUS Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

Listen To JESUS Hebrews 2:3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
