11 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 Indeed, by faith our ancestors received approval. 29 By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as if it were dry land, but when the Egyptians attempted to do so they were drowned. 30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell after they had been encircled for seven days.

31 By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient, because she had received the spies in peace. 32 And what more should I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets— 33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions,

34 quenched raging fire, escaped the edge of the sword, won strength out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. 39 Yet all these, though they were commended for their faith, did not receive what was promised,40 since God had provided something better so that they would not, apart from us, be made perfect. - Hebrews 11:1-2, 29-34, 39-40

32 And what more should I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets

Background: Judges Ups and Downs (mostly downs) Enemies

11 The angel of the L ORD came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. 12 When the angel of the L ORD appeared to Gideon, he said, “The L ORD is with you, mighty warrior.” -Judges 6:11-12

13 “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but if the L ORD is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about when they said, ‘Did not the L ORD bring us up out of Egypt?’ But now the L ORD has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian.” - Judges 6:13

14 The L ORD turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” 15 “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” - Judges 6:14-15

36 Gideon said to God, “If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised— 37 look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said.” 38 And that is what happened. Gideon rose early the next day; he squeezed the fleece and wrung out the dew—a bowlful of water. - Judges 6:36-38

BATTLE TIME!! Well… Maybe just ONE more sign…..please….

39 Then Gideon said to God, “Do not be angry with me. Let me make just one more request. Allow me one more test with the fleece, but this time make the fleece dry and let the ground be covered with dew.” 40 That night God did so. Only the fleece was dry; all the ground was covered with dew. - Judges 6:39-40

What Biblical Faith Does: Worship (Abel) Walks (Enoch) Works (Noah) Waits (Abraham)

God works with widow’s mites When we walk by faith And not by sight

21 And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, 2 and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. 3 So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; 4 for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.” - Luke 21:1-4
