Ephesians 4:25-5:4 Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.

Words of Grace “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”

Words that destroy life… Words that deceive Words to attack and shame Words meant to steal Words driven by bitterness, wrath, anger, or malice

Words that destroy life… Words of slander or gossip Words filled with sexual immorality or impurity Words compelled by envy and coveting Words of filthiness or foolish talk or crude joking

Words that destroy life… All such talk… “…grieve(s) the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” (v. 30)

Words of grace that give life… Words of kindness, tenderness, and thoughtfulness Words that extend forgiveness Words full of gratitude for grace

Words of grace that give life… Words compelled by agape and compassion Words that encourage, and instill hope and confidence Words overflowing with thanksgiving to God and others

Words of grace that give life… When our speech overflows with such grace, we are… “…imitators of God, as beloved children. and walk in love….” (5:1-2)
