Show Me Your Faith James 2:14-26 18 August 2013

Show Me Your Faith 14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. 19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.

Show Me Your Faith 20 You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless [a] ? 21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” [b] and he was called God’s friend. 24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.ab

25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? 26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

Show Me Your Faith Declaration – Demonstration = Deception. Faith Test What would your faith look like? How does this faith work? How does it show itself?

Three Kinds of Faith A. Dead faith is defective James 2:14 14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?

A. Dead faith The faith that doesn’t produce fruits, doesn’t show evidence of good works – that is not real faith, that is dead faith. The faith that doesn’t produce obedience of God’s word, doesn’t produce desire to do God’s will – that is dead faith

A. Dead Faith James 2:15-17 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

A. Dead Faith The person who says he has faith but show no fruit, no life changes, who doesn’t want to put their faith into action is no better than the person who has no faith at all. The person who claims to love God but doesn’t act, and speak like it, live like it, nor show it, is no better off than a person who say I don’t believe or love God at all.

Three Kinds of Faith B. Demonic faith is deceptive James 2: 18 But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.”Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. 19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that— and shudder.

B. Demonic Faith Don’t just say it show it. You can have good works without faith but you can’t have faith without good works. Matthew 5:15-16 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Three Kinds of Faith C. Dynamic faith is decisive James 2 20 You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless [a] ? 21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.a 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” [b] and he was called God’s friend. 24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.b

c. Dynamic faith 24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone. Faith justifies the believers, Works justifies faith. Faith is the root of salvation and good works are the fruits of salvation

C. Dynamic faith 26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead. When you come to the Real Jesus, and the real Jesus come into you, The real Jesus give you Real faith, you’ll know that your faith is real because you will show it and people will see it.
