Welcome to our OLD Kitchen Left mouse click to advance slide.

Here’s the OLD Kitchen Moving Day !!! Here’s a picture of the kitchen when we were just moving in. The black strip on the left wall is a pot rack which we took down immediately. Left mouse click to advance slide.

Here’s the OLD Kitchen Moving Day !!! Here’s a picture of the kitchen when we were just moving in. One problem we saw right away is that the Refrigerator is in the way of the door. Two Words… “New Layout”. Left mouse click to advance slide.

Fridge 27x30 24x12 Sink 24x28 24x39 24x15 Stove 24x36 24x27 24x18 24x30 24x36 Here’s the OLD Kitchen Layout Wall Sconce Lighting Appliances Walls Dishwasher 24x24 Left mouse click to advance slide.

Here’s the OLD Kitchen Here’s a wide angle of the Kitchen. The ceiling is 9 ft tall. The soffit is 2 ft. Lots of wasted space. The fridge is too small and the stove is too large for today’s appliances. Left mouse click to advance slide.

Here’s the OLD Kitchen Danny and Ben tearing down the kitchen drop ceiling. Lovely Wallpaper. Left mouse click to advance slide.

This is a wall that we decided to tear out to open up the kitchen. It proved to be a challenge because we discovered that it was a load bearing wall. The reason we were surprised is because it is not supported in the floor. It sits between two floor joists. How did it survive 80 years? Here’s the OLD Kitchen Left mouse click to advance slide.

Here’s the OLD Kitchen You can see that once the wall was down it really opened up the room. Left mouse click to advance slide.

Here’s the OLD Kitchen This is the East wall before we got the support beam up but after we took down the slat and plaster to see what we had to work with. Left mouse click to advance slide.

Once again here’s the wall prior to opening up the room. You can see that it takes away a good 3x5 space from the kitchen and to enter from the bathroom on the left, you need to snake around the corners. I think it’s a stupid layout. Here’s the OLD Kitchen Left mouse click to advance slide.

Here’s the OLD Kitchen WOW! What a difference taking down that wall made. The next step will be to expand the bathroom because it is way too small. Left mouse click to advance slide.

Here’s the OLD Kitchen Here’s a picture of the East wall After the support beam has been put in. The white colored stuff to the left of the support beam is foam used to seal up cracks. Left mouse click to advance slide.

Here’s the OLD Kitchen Obviously the wall is not finished. Wires still need to be secured, etc. but at least it’s all open now. Left mouse click to advance slide.

Here’s the OLD Kitchen Here’s another shot of the open area. Left mouse click to advance slide.

Here’s the OLD Kitchen Here’s a picture I took to show where the wall used to sit. It actually used to sit between two floor joists with only a one-inch plywood floor for support. Left mouse click to advance slide.
