As a speech pathologist, it’s your role to:
Assist the medical team to make the diagnosis using state of the art technology
Provide Mr Jones with education about the procedure and prognosis
Inform Mr Jones of his communication options post-procedure, including an electronic voice box or a device implanted in the throat
Teach Mr Jones how to speak, eat and drink post-operatively and provide ongoing support and management throughout his entire life
