 Determine the HVAC components needed for the residence in figure 14-11. the furnace includes an air conditioner. A 2” x 12” register is required at each of the base cabinets and a 6” x 18” grille is needed at the beginning of each return air. The distance from the top of the furnace to the rood is 22 feet. The vent pipe is 4 inches in diameter.

 The equipment needed is a furnace, and air conditioning coil, and an air conditioning compressor. A plenum will be needed between the furnace and the supply trunk line.  For the supply trunk line:  16 feet of 8” x 12” rectangular duct  two 8” x 12” to 8” x 8” transitions  16 feet of 8” x 8” square duct  two 8” x 8” end caps will be needed

 For the individual supply lines, the following items are needed:  nine 90-degree 6-inch elbows to connect the trunk to the line  85 feet (15’+15’+15’+3’+7’+6’+6’+9’+9’) of 6” diameter duct  three 90-degree 6-inch elbows to connect to the base cabinets  three 2” x 12” registers  six 4” x 12” boots  six 4” x 12” registers.

 The following items are needed for the return air:  two 6” x 18” grills  9 feet (1’+1’+1’+1’+4’+1’) of 18-inch- wide sheet metal to create return air chases between the joists  two 8” x 12” end caps  14 feet of 8”x 12” end caps  4 feet of 8” x 12” duct  8 feet of 12” x 18” duct to run from the trunk line to the bottom of the furnace.

 The venting needs to run from the furnace to a point at least 2 feet above the rood.  Four feet of pipe is allowed for the vent to enter the chase. The pipe in the chase will need to be double walled.  For the venting, the following items are needed:  two 90-degree 4-inch single-wall elbows  4 feet of 4-inch diameter single-wall pipe  24 feet of 4-inch diameter double-wall pipe  one 4-inch roof flashing  one 4-inch termination cap.

 Other items needed for the furnace include:  one box of line set to connect the condenser to the coil  one thermostat  one roll of low voltage wiring.  Additionally, the electrician will need to provide power and a switch at the furnace and a fuel line will need to be provided from the fuel source.
