22 How do I choose the appropriate level? Choose Honors/AP in courses where you enjoy the material and independent learning Seek input from teachers, parents, counselors, etc. Choose a BALANCED schedule where you are challenged in areas of interest or desired growth Beware of overscheduling; it becomes very difficult to maintain health and wellness, which is key to academic and personal success. Attend Curriculum Night or review AP Expectations on Blackboard to get a clear picture of the unique demands of an AP course.

27 AP Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) In order to enroll in an AP Course at your registration appointment with your counselor, you must have an AP MOU. 28 Caution For World Languages AND Mathematics, it is STRONGLY recommended that you have a C or better before moving to the next course and pass your PALS If you do not have a C or better, your parents may have to sign a permission slip for you to be allowed to advance.

29 Factors to Consider when Selecting Electives The purpose of electives is to allow you to explore subjects that may help you develop a new life or academic skill, develop career-specific skills or knowledge, or develop a skill/talent outside of the core curriculum areas. Attending the Curriculum Fair on February 11 Contacting Teachers Directly Speak with Peers, Siblings, Parents, or Counselor 1.

32 What’s next? 1. Go to the Course Selection Guide and read descriptions of the courses. 2. Participate in the WSHS Electives Fair on Feb 11 th 3. Attend Curriculum Night on Feb 9 th 4. Select 7 Courses Plus 3 Alternatives. 5. Discuss your 2015-16 schedule with your parents and have them sign your course selection sheet. 6. Arrive prepared: Counselor is there for questions, but pre-planning is a must to have a productive session.
