2 Endocrine System O Endocrine System : The endocrine system regulates the functions of the organs in the body by using all of the glands and the hormones they produce to maintain homeostasis.

4 Location O Gonads in the female body are the ovaries, located inside the abdomen. O The male gonads are called testicles, located in the scrotum.

5 Role and Function O Make gametes or haploid germ cells O Sex cells are the gametes

6 Hormones Secreted O Testosterone O Progesterone O Estrogen

7 Testosterone O Increased growth of body hair on face, chest, axillary region, pubic region, lowers voice, thickening of skin.

8 Progesterone O Promote change in the uterus during the female reproductive cycle, affects the mammary glands, and regulates gonadotropins from the anterior pituitary

9 Estrogen O Development of the breasts and the ductile system of the mammary glands in the breasts O Increased disposition of adipose tissue in the subcutaneous layer generally and in the breasts, thighs and buttochs particularly O Increased vascularization of the skin.

10 Cancer O Testicular Cancer O Causes: exact cause is unknown O Abnormal testicle development O Klinefelter Syndrome O Symptoms O Discomfort or pain in the testicle, or a feeling of heaviness in the scrotum O Pain in the back or lower abdomen O Ovarian Cancer O Causes O Family History O Age (occurs more in women over 65 years old) O Symptoms: not all due to cancer O Pressure/pain in abdomen, pelvis, back, legs O Nausea, indigestion, gas, constipation, or diarrhea

11 Klinefelter Syndrome O Causes O Having one extra X chromosome O Symptoms O Abnormal body proportions (long legs, short trunk, shoulder equal to hip size) O Abnormally large breasts O Infertility O Sexual problems O Less than normal amount of pubic, armpit, and facial hair O Small, firm testicles

12 Interesting Facts O The survival rate of testicular cancer patients in the early stage is 95% O Testicular cancer is the most common form of cancer in men between the ages of 15 and O Klinefelter syndrome also increases your risk of: O ADHD O Breast cancer O Learning disabilities (ex. Dyslexia) O Depression
