MAMM Readiness Review Replanning Process

Replanning Strategy When to replan? When to replan? Address two classes of data loss.Address two classes of data loss. –Stochastic losses ranging from a few data takes to a few orbits. –Loss of significant mission capabilities. Loss of McMurdo GRS.Loss of McMurdo GRS. Reduction in SAR on-time capacity.Reduction in SAR on-time capacity.

Replanning Strategy (cont.) Stochastic losses:Stochastic losses: –Replan to acquire lost image data. Current strategy is replanning to be limited to cycle-1.Current strategy is replanning to be limited to cycle-1. Replans will become “nominal” plan for cycles-2, 3.Replans will become “nominal” plan for cycles-2, 3. Reduction in SAR on-time capability:Reduction in SAR on-time capability: –Reduce coverage to high priority regions. “canned” plan being developed“canned” plan being developed –If loss extensive, NRT will work with K.Jezek to reduce coverage to fit within available capacity.

Replanning Strategy (cont.) Loss of McMurdo.Loss of McMurdo. –MAMM OBR and US Government OBR allocation combined will increase to 1000 mins. –Convert RTM F1 data acquisitions to OBR. Total F1 coverage = 817 minutesTotal F1 coverage = 817 minutes –Cancel (if required) non-F1 OBR data acquisitions. –Replanning strategy will take into account best estimates of duration of McMurdo outage.

Replanning Procedure Overview Data losses reported via PPS, SRF & Fast Scan.Data losses reported via PPS, SRF & Fast Scan. –PPS and SRF sent to CSA. –Fast Scan results delivered directly to NRT. NRT evaluates net image loss and determines (with CSA CTC) viable replanning options.NRT evaluates net image loss and determines (with CSA CTC) viable replanning options. –Extend already planned acquisition activities. –Add new activities. –Convert F1 acquisitions to F1-Near or F1-Far. Report replanned activities to ASF for resource tracking.Report replanned activities to ASF for resource tracking.

Details of Replanning Process Data tracking loss detected at MGS, ASF, PASS or GSS.Data tracking loss detected at MGS, ASF, PASS or GSS. –Post Pass Summary (PPS) faxed to CSA. –Phone call to MMO hotline. Processing loss detected via SRF and Fast Scan.Processing loss detected via SRF and Fast Scan. –ASF scans each tape (SRF) and will generate PPS if error detected. –Fast Scan performed at PASS and GSS by OSU staff. results transmitted directly to NRTresults transmitted directly to NRT

Details of Replanning Process (cont.) CSA CTC reports details of loss to NRT via MAMM Anomaly Report Form (MARF).CSA CTC reports details of loss to NRT via MAMM Anomaly Report Form (MARF). NRT develops replan activities and submits plan to CTC (via MARF) by 13:00 UTC.NRT develops replan activities and submits plan to CTC (via MARF) by 13:00 UTC. CTC constraint checks replan and supplies NRT with CRM form for confirmation.CTC constraint checks replan and supplies NRT with CRM form for confirmation. CTC submits replans to MMO by 14:00CTC submits replans to MMO by 14:00 –nominal sequence development commences NRT supplies ASF with replan SPA files.NRT supplies ASF with replan SPA files.

Replanning Process Rehearsal Desirable to conduct rehearsal of replanning process. –Individual elements have all been exercised. –End-to-end rehearsal underway during Readiness Review. Will perform two tests: –Response to tracking data loss at McMurdo –Response to loss detected via SRF at ASF.

NASA Replanning Team (NRT) Two primary functions:Two primary functions: –Replanning as required by mission events. –Daily tasks. Keep track of acquired data.Keep track of acquired data. Generate daily coverage maps.Generate daily coverage maps. Members:Members: –Richard Austin (JPL) –Barbara Engelhardt (JPL) –John Crawford (JPL, backup)

NRT-Replanning Primary tool is RadarSAT Swath Planner Application (SPA).Primary tool is RadarSAT Swath Planner Application (SPA). If data loss occurs:If data loss occurs: –Nominal SPA plan is edited to match loss. –Resultant coverage is examined for holes, reduction in overlap, etc. –Replanned activities (mods to existing, new, or use of F1 Near and Far beams) identified. –Replans generated and submitted to CSA and ASF (OBR and SAR on-time resource tracking).

NRT-Replanning (cont.) Use of F1 near and far beams.Use of F1 near and far beams. –Creates holes with adjacent swaths for lat > 70º S Lost data21976 219 Far 76 Near

NRT-Daily Activities In addition to replanning, the NRT is responsible for assorted daily tasks. –Verify daily data acquisitions. Use results from PPS, SRF and Fast Scan Results –Generate cumulative coverage maps. At the end of each day, verified new data will be incorporated into the cumulative map. The project scientist will include these maps as part of a daily progress report for NASA and CSA.
