IES EL MÉDANO’S DEVELOPMENT Three academic years Schooling for students from the coast area of Granadilla de Abona Education provided: - ESO - Aula enclave (special classroom for mentally and physically handicapped students) 323 students estimated for the period 2009/10

GENERAL STUDENT’S FEATURES Great diviersity of origins and curricular levels Some of them do not speak Spanish Student’s entering school any time throughout the academic year Low rate of absentsim Low academic results at certain levels Difficulties both in written comprehension and writing Homeworks uncompleted and lack of school materials Unmotivated students

PLANNING ATTENTION TO DIVERSITY Flexible groups ESO 1 Language and Maths Split-level groups: 3 hours in Language in ESO 2 Diversification group ESO 4 8 hours for language support for foreign students

Improvement planning Module I: Basic Competences and environmental management. Module II: Sea Sports for Beginners. Module III: “Aprendo a convivir en el IES El Médano. Por un centro de todos y todas”. Activities for coexistence in the school and Community activities. Module IV: “Nos movemos en familia”. Promoting family participation in school life.

Other Projects Multicultural educational project CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) It involves teaching a curricular subject in English. This academic year, Maths and Sciences ESO 1. Comenius Project Language Assistant Teacher Training Course: Developement of the Comprehensive Education Plan of the school within the framework of the new law
