Let’s start with the most easily seen part of most J1939 networks: The in-vehicle service connector.
This SAE standardized connector is manufactured by Deutsche, and can be found in most North American heavy duty trucks, either in the cab or under the hood. It connects up to two datalinks – J1587 or J1939 – to external tools such as DOC. It also supplies 12V power for the tools.
