2. Domenikos Theotokopoulos, known as “El Greco” was born in 1541 in Cardía, on the island of Crete and died in 1614 in Toledo (Spain). He was a late Renaissance painter who developed a very personal style in his mature works. He trained in his native island as icon painter before moving to Venice, where he met Tiziano and Tintoretto, artists, along with Michelangelo, were most influenced his painting. BIOGRAPHY OF GRECO
