11 Question from the field: – LED units put out 3220 lumens yet the T8 fluorescent version indicates 6000 lumens – Is it true that these are putting out almost ½ the light output?” Raw lumen output is not the critical parameter! Effective lumens is the most important criteria that must be used when comparing LED and fluorescent bulbs 11 LED vs. Fluorescents

12 Effective Lumen Output = Rated Lumens * Coefficient of Utilization * Ballast Factor * Lamp Lumen Depreciation * Luminaire Dirt Depreciation * Lamp Burnout Factor LED lights are directional in nature so most of the light is contained in a focused beam (typically 0° to 120°). Fluorescent bulbs have a cylindrical design and a large portion of the light is reflected, not focused, so only a small portion directly illuminates the intended surface area. Fluorescent bulbs typically have an effective Lumen output of around 35% to 50% 12 LED vs. Fluorescents

13 Example:1140 Fluorescent vs. 1140 LED … ModelRaw LumensEffectively RatingEffective Output 1140 Fluorescent 6000 40% 2400 1140 LED 3220 80% 2576 LED has a lower raw lumen rating LED effective lumen output is greater than a fluorescent bulb with a much higher raw lumen value 13 LED vs. Fluorescents
