1 Lazy Man’s MP3 Player Advisor: Gerod Melton

2 TEAM WORK Work as a team throughout the whole project on any assigned work Not to divide the work as assignments to each individual Have fun with it

3 Mission Statement The Lazy Man's MP3 Player will uprise the MP3 player for the Home Entertainment System. No more having to walk up to your IPOD and MANUALLY searching for songs. No more BUTTON MASHING your NEXT button to get to the song you want. The Lazy Man's MP3 Player will do it ALL!

4 Yasir Alsaggaf  Email: Yasir.Alsaggaf@colostate.eduYasir.Alsaggaf@colostate.edu  Electrical Engineering

5 Project Objectives Research for an MP3 player system that uses IDE Interface and USB Research for a voice recognition software Research a way to transmit our voice to the MP3 player from a distance Analyze how Bluetooth or infrared technology functions and how data is received and transmitted Understand how voice recognition software works Extract transmitted data from the Bluetooth or infrared Input extracted data to voice recognition software Get the software and Bluetooth or infrared data to work in sync Present a fully functioning MP3 player that will work with voice recognition and Bluetooth or infrared

6 Tasks Come up with a suitable MP3 player design Find an MP3 player that can be connected to a computer, has wireless remote capabilities, and also has voice recognition capabilities Purchase parts and Test

7 Tasks (continued) Add-on remote functionality to MP3 player Test Remote Functionality Choose Between Bluetooth and Infrared Add-on Voice Recognition Test Voice Recognition Add-on Wireless Microphone Capabilities to Remote

8 MP3 player Design

9

10 Existing Research Found types of MP3 players  Functionality Stop, Play, Next, Previous  None had ability to do voice recognition  Only on car systems but are used for more than music  Home systems don’t have this technology

11 Nicholas Dang  Email: Nicholas.Dang@Colostate.eduNicholas.Dang@Colostate.edu  Computer Engineering

12 How it all started Stationary or Portable? How to find a perfect MP3 player? Found designs Order and begin building

13 Issues and new decisions Running into problems Which way to go ?  Change of plans Solutions  Found a perfect MP3 player kit  Voice recognition Vs. Building Mp3 Player  Research ways to transmit voice to the new MP3 player

14 Infrared or Bluetooth ? Bluetooth for voice recognition Obtained Bluetooth Development kit from Mr. Dave Rohn of Microsoft Test Product compatibility

15 Bluetooth Problems BDK will not function with Windows XP BDK only compatible with Windows 2000 Solutions:  Windows XP Driver for BDK  Install Windows 2000

16 Michael Cieslak  Email: michael.Cieslak@colostate.edumichael.Cieslak@colostate.edu  Computer Engineering

17 Next Semester Goals Study Bluetooth technology Remote/microphone communication to MP3 Player Brainstorm possible implementations and implement the technology

18 Continue Goals Develop software  To digitize the voice signal  Take Action Develop a search protocol  For voice recognition systems

19 Timeline February  Successfully use Bluetooth kit and Microsoft voice recognition software to realize certain computer commands March  Start Developing software to interact with MP3 player and with Bluetooth kit April  Test completed MP3 player  Updates and correction of errors if any occur  Final touch

20 Other Issues Size of music libraries are in increase, makes it hard to find certain songs or artists Solution:  Bluetooth technology Conversion of voice commands  Find Artist, find song, and list artist

21 BUDGET MP3 decoder  $24.00 Atmel CPU  $25.00 MP3 Player  $157.00 Bluetooth kit  Donated by Dave Rohn of Microsoft estimated at $3000.00

22 Thank you’s Mrs. Olivera Notaros  Senior Design instructor Mr. Gerod Melton  Project Advisor Mr. Dave Rohn  Donator of Bluetooth kit
