2. Start small to make big changes Tokyo Yuden is a non-profit corporation that is determined to reduce waste as well as CO2 emissions. They collect used oil from restaurants and individual homes and use it to form VDF (Vegetable Diesel Fuel) to power cars, candles, and hand soaps. Their ideas have spread all around Tokyo but currently they have only one factory.

3. Having good intentions Tokyo Yuden did not aim to make a profit from their customers Their general aim was to reduce waste from contaminating waterways and to mitigate carbon dioxide emissions The people in the Kamogawa Nature Kingdom trust each other with their AWA Money

4. Spread the word The Toshiba Youth Conference gave us a foundation both in the form of new knowledge and better communication skills to become more sustainable. We as participants will bring back what we have learned to our homes and communities These ideas will spread out to four different countries: United States, Thailand, Poland, and Japan

5. Why we need to speak out… In order to encourage others to partake in an environmental friendly behavior, we have to start small It will create a chain reaction which will be the most effective way to encourage sustainable behaviors

6. One Spark Starts A Fire As a school, we will create our own Youth Conference We will bring together students from multiple high schools from New York City for a weekend environmental conference We will share ideas of what young people can do to reduce CO 2 emissions in our own homes and neighborhoods

7. Sample Camp Activities Workshops on composting and creating a bee apiary Plant local food on our school roof Field trips to Greenmarkets and canoe trip down the Bronx River Invite guest speakers from universities, non-profit groups and city agencies. Developing a community action plan to reduce plastic bag use in our school neighborhood Camp out in our school gym

8. There’s power in all the choices we make Alejandro: Buy produce at local farmers markets and educate my family about their benefits Nina: Personal reduction and educate about plastic bag use Ashley: Change recycling system in her building Diana: Create a rooftop garden on her own apartment building

9. Not a moment to waste! Do something small for your community because small things add up Individual changes are the most effective ways to make larger changes in your local community It is imperative that we develop a more sustainable society because the earth is our only home.
