Double Award Students achieve a: GCSE Core Science and GCSE Additional Science. These 2 GCSEs are taught in parallel with students sitting 3 separate science exams for each GCSE in June 2016. Each exam is worth 25% of the final grade and is 1 hour long

CORE SCIENCE ADD’ SCIENCE B1 You and your genes C1 Air quality P1 The Earth in the universe B4 Processes of life C4 Chemical patterns P4 Explaining motion B2 Keeping healthy Keeping healthy C2 Material choices P2 Radiation and life B5 Growth and development C5 Chemicals of the natural environment P5 Electric circuits B3 Life on earth C3 Chemicals in our live, risks and benefits P3 Sustainable energy B6 Brain and mind C6 Chemical synthesis P6 Radioactive materials

The students will also have to complete controlled assessments. Y10 - Core science students will complete: a Case Study, an extended essay (6hrs) Y11 - Core science students will complete: a Data Analysis report (6hrs) Y11 -Additional Science students will complete a PSI- Practical Scientific Investigation (10hrs) All students will be supported with this but there is a large element where the students are under exam conditions, and no help can be given. All students will NOT be given a grade but will be told the mark they achieved.

Triple science GCSE Biology A, Chemistry A and Physics A provides the opportunity to further develop: an interest in, and enthusiasm for science develop a critical approach to scientific evidence and methods acquire and apply skills, knowledge and understanding of how science works and its essential role in society acquire scientific skills, knowledge and understanding necessary for progression to further learning.

Exams > There will be 3 exams/subject in June 2016. >> The Controlled Assessments will be submitted in May 2016.

Controlled Assessment > The CAs will be started in term 5//6 of yr10. Students will NOT be doing ALL 3 pieces at the same time. >>The CAs topics are chosen by staff from a list provide by the board. >>>The students will initially complete some of the Practical Science Investigation under LOW control where they can discuss their ideas with staff and fellow students, but once the results have been collated they will be under HIGH ( examination ) control. >>>>The PSI usually will take about 10hours of class time- they will not be under HIGH control for all of each lesson! >>>>>Students will have use of the marks scheme to help them with their write up. >>>>>> No work at any time can leave the class. All work will be written by hand unless there are extenuating circumstances. >>>>>>>The CA is internally moderated by the team before a selection is moderated by OCR.
