3 3 International Amateur Radio Union – Region 1 Working for the future of Amateur Radio IARU history In March 1924 amateurs from Belgium, Canada, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain, Switzerland, UK and USA planned the International Amateur Radio Union In April 1925 a Congress in Paris with amateurs from 23 countries in Europe, North and South America and Japan created IARU first constitution adopted April 17, 1925 3

4 4 International Amateur Radio Union – Region 1 Working for the future of Amateur Radio Today’s Structure 3 autonomous regions (like ITU) working in accordance with the IARU Constitution more than 150 Member Societies (95 in Region 1) each Member Society has the responsibility of representing amateur radio within its own country or territory each Member society represents its members in the IARU 4
