Background The opening of the new building of the Tel Aviv Museum is a major international anchor for the city and the country. The new building will be the heart of a year of events which will deepen the city’s positioning as a cultural center. Designed by Arch. Preston Scott Cohen and Amit Nemelich, the new building is a dynamic ornament made of 430 polished cement panels.

Rationale The Year of Art is a major component of the city’s strategic plan to position Tel Aviv as a global city and a world cultural leader.

Goal The opening will serve as trigger for artistic and cultural activity throughout the city. The entire metropolitan area will come together in artistic celebrations.

Activities 2011 - 2012 1. September 2011: Activities begin in city schools. 2. October 2011: Official Opening by the Museum’s International Board. 3. Winter 2011-2012: Artistic activity in collaboration with the Greater Tel Aviv’s cultural institutions. 4. March 22-25 2012: Public Exposure: A weekend of city-wide celebrations 5. April-July 2012: Exhibitions, conferences, artistic events
