2-1 Solving One-Step Equations

Goal: To isolate the variable How do you do this : Use Inverse Operation (Opposite) Addition → Subtraction Multiplication → Division Follow the Rules of Integers

1.X + 13 = 27 2.-7 = b – 3 3.m – 8 = -14

4. y – 3/2 = ½

5. 4x = 12 6. 10 = -5x 7. 3.2x = 14

8. x = -9 4 9. 19 = x 3

When the coefficient is a fraction – Multiply by its Reciprocal!!! 10.4/5m = 28 11. -12 = 3/4x

12.1/3 + x = 2/7 13.x + 2.8 = -3.7 14.-5.3 + x = 8.9

15. You have a gift certificate for $30. The rental plan costs $5 per month. Write an equation to represent how many months you can purchase with the gift certificate. 16. You have already read 117 pages of a book. You are one third of the way through the book. Write and solve an equation to find the number of pages in the book.

17. In a 3 year period, a city’s population decreased by 7525 to about 581,600. What was the city’s population at he beginning of the 3 year period?
