 The great city  A very important city  “a visit required three days”  A population similar to Falkirk  It’s a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10:31)  God gave them a second chance  The Ninevites believed God  They turned from their evil ways

 Mentioned in 2 Kings 14:25  Been to the depth of the grave (2:2)  Now willing to go to the gates of Nineveh  He talks with God; he walks with God  Yet he does not understand God  He does not fear God  God gives him a second chance  Preaches a great sermon

 He is the hero of the book  He is “a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity” (4:2)

Oh, he is gracious, compassionate, Slow to anger, rich in love, Always good to all, Compassionate to all that he has made Dave Godfrey © 2007 Daybreak Music Ltd, Song Number 5050435 song list

 He is the hero of the book  He is “a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity” (4:2)  God responds to humankind  He does not need to be persuaded to forgive  He is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20)

 It’s better to “proclaim it to” than “preach it at”  It carries its own power  It overthrows our life  Repentance starts with believing God’s word (5)  Then grasping the seriousness of our position before him (9)  Real repentance is demonstrated in a change of attitude toward God (5,8,10)  and a change in behaviour toward others (10)

 We are dependant on the compassion and grace of God  We are no more worthy of that grace than anyone else  We are in no less need of that grace than anyone else  We must walk with God in humility  We must allow Him to challenge our understanding of Himself and His gospel  We should expect to be part of Christ’s commission to tell others of His Gospel
