8 NEED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT? You can schedule an appointment ONLINE using your district Google account. Remember – you can only schedule during homeroom, lunch, or study hall. 1.Use your phone and a free scanner app to scan your counselor’s QR code posted in your teacher’s room. 2.Access your School Counselor’s webpage from any computer. Then, click the link to schedule an appointment. 3.Stop by the NASH School Counseling office and use the IPAD. Click on your counselor’s appointment icon. You will get an email confirmation once your counselor confirms the appointment. You can use your phone to show your teacher the confirmation as your pass or print the confirmation. Please remember your teachers have to approve all appointments. 8

15 Contract between the school and the student/parent. It provides a course placement that supersedes the teacher recommendation. ◦ Example: Teacher recommends Phase III Psychology but the student wants to take AP Psychology. 15 Waivers are available on the NASD Website Student must complete the form and obtain the following signatures ( student, parent, current teacher). Forms must be returned to the School Counseling Office by March 27 th. Students can only waive 1 level ( Example: Academic Physics to Honors Physics) ) Students can not waive a pre-requisite ( Example: Enrollment in Honors Meteorology requires completion of any Physics course) WAIVER POLICY : If a withdraw occurs before 40 days (20 for semester), a “W” will appear on the official transcript If a withdraw occurs after 40 days (20 for semester), an “E” will appear on the official transcript

16 1. AP PHYSICS 2 : 1 credit Electric field, circuit analysis, magnetism, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, geometric & physical optics, and atomic & nuclear physics 2. APP DEVELOPMENT:.5 credits Introductory mobile application design and programming course using Java and Eclipse for Android devices that will help students develop real working apps. 3. ROBOTICS:.5 credits Using VE X Cortex systems and RobotC software, students will work on robotic coding and be provided with the concepts that address material processes, machining, welding, plasma, cutting, CNC, and Rapid Prototyping in designing and building custom robots. 4. RECREATIONAL LEADERSHIP:.5 credits Designed for students interested in entering the field of education or wanting to work with children in a recreational and sport settings. Activities will center on the idea of directing/designing team and group activities along with modifying activities for special needs to ensure safe successful experiences. 16

17  11 th Grade Modern American History will now be called American History II. This will also include the Honors Level.  Phase III Psychology (.5 credit) will now be offered in grades 9-12.  This course can be taken as preparation for AP Psychology 17

18 College in High School Business Courses ◦Carlow College  Earn 3 college credits if you earn a “C” or better in Accounting 1 and Accounting 2.  Students must sign up for both classes. Cost is $180.00. ◦Carlow College  Earn 3 college credits if you earn a “C” or better in Honors Accounting 1 and Honors Accounting 2.  Student must sign up for both classes. Cost is $180.00. Math Courses ◦University of Pittsburgh  Honors Calculus - $225 - C or better = 4 credits,  Probability and Stats - $225 - D = 4 credits * Additional requirements/policies will be provided by the teacher World Language Courses ◦La Roche College Scholars Program  $200.00 per course  Sign up in the Fall  All Grades/test/assessments are through North Allegheny ◦ Honors Senior Spanish ◦ Honors French 3, Honors Senior French, AP French ◦ Honors German 3, Honors Senior German, AP German 18

19 Teacher Recommendations If you are choosing an elective that requires a teacher recommendation in the Program of Studies (ex. Honors Anatomy), you MUST obtain a signed recommendation slip. You will need to bring this note to your individual scheduling meeting the week of March 16-20, 2015. 19

20 Alternate Electives When making your online course requests, you must choose three alternate electives in the event you do not get your first choice electives. 20

21 Schedule Change Policy All students have an opportunity in the spring of each year to select courses appropriate to their needs. Students are also permitted to adjust their course selections prior to March 27, 2015. Following this date, all course selections will be considered final, and schedule change requests will only be considered for the following reasons: 1. Mechanical error. Example: Course left off schedule. 2. Level changes. Level changes can only occur within the first 40 days of school and if the student has a 79% or lower in their current class. After day 40, level changes will not be permitted. 3. Needed for Graduation Requirement. Example: Failed required course and must drop elective or study hall to schedule a make-up course. 4. Fill study hall. Example: Replace study hall with an elective course without adjusting any other parts of schedule and if seats are available in the class. 21 Page 8... Program of Studies

22 NEW POLICIES Requests determine staffing (no switching electives) ◦Carefully select courses…talk to teachers, counselors, consult Program of Studies and/or Podcasts developed by Curricular Departments located on the Senior High School webpage. No requests for teacher changes No requests for Early Release ◦If you get 11 th period study hall by chance, then you can request it. No requests for lunch changes (only with medical note) 22

23 NOW WHAT?  Log on to your STUDENT portal to review your teacher recommendations. English, History, Math, Science, PE, and World Language  Select elective courses that match your future interests.  Review the Program of Studies and/or watch the podcasts available on the NASH website.  Pay attention to course pre-requisites listed in the Program of Studies.  Schedule at least 7 credits.  Choose and enter 3 alternative electives.  If you are selecting more than one math or science course, remember that you may need to have that teacher sign the white slip. 23
