TAKING RENEWABLE ENERGY TO HEART 5 Westar Compliance with RES (Renewable Energy Standards) Ahead of Schedule Renewable portfolio will represent 12% of generation sources 864 MW of Wind 149 MW owned 715 MW PPA 6 MW land fill gas PPA

TAKING RENEWABLE ENERGY TO HEART 6 Kay Wind Farm – under construction Location: 18,115 acres in Kay County, OK. Developer: Apex Clean Energy Structure: Purchase power agreement on 200 MW Projected Annual Generation: Over 843,000 MWh Projected In Service: Dec. 31, 2015

Customers are telling us… 97% of Westar customers surveyed express some interest in renewable energy With 69% indicating that Westar is not providing enough renewable energy to its customers Source: Jayhawk Consulting 2013 TAKING RENEWABLE ENERGY TO HEART 8 Strong interest in renewable energy Westar not doing enough

TAKING RENEWABLE ENERGY TO HEART 9 …that we need to close the gap Source: Jayhawk Consulting 2013 84% of Westar customers aren’t aware of Westar’s involvement in renewable energy Significant gap exists between customer awareness and Westar performance

TAKING RENEWABLE ENERGY TO HEART 10 Awareness gap doesn’t mesh with reality While there is strong interest in renewable energy within Westar customer base…. Significant gap exists between public perception and the reality of Westar renewable energy initiatives: 10% of Westar energy generation capacity is powered by wind. Westar owns or purchases power from 5 wind farms, providing enough energy to power over 250,000 Kansas homes each year. Westar wind farms reduce production of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) an equivalent amount to that generated by 125,000 passenger cars per year. Through the efficiency of Westar wind energy generation, enough water is saved to supply the consumption needs for over 19,000 homes each year. Westar landfill gas generation supplies the energy needs of 5,000 homes In addition to using solar systems to offset energy requirements at multiple company locations, Westar will provide solar energy systems to 15 to 20 non-profit groups by the end of 2016.
