2 Establishin g a Need Unfortunately, money does not grow on trees. This wish is not felt more deeply than in the institution of public education. THE MISSION OF SUSD GRANT DEVELOPMENT IS TO: secure grant monies and assist others in securing grant monies for the educational gain of all stakeholders in the school district with primary foci on funding having the utmost impact on the greatest number of people and students as the prime beneficiaries of all funding.

3 Understandi ng Policy SUSD Governing Board Policy should shape and inform what occurs in grant development. THE FOLLOWING POLICIES ARE ARTICULATED IN THE GOVERNING BOARD MANUAL: D-0050 © DA Fiscal Management Goals/Priority Objectives, D-0959 © DD Funding Proposals, Grants, and Special Projects, D-0981 © DD-E Funding Proposals, Grants, and Special Projects, D-1000 © DDA Funding Sources Outside the School System (also refer to A.R.S. § 15-341).

4 Setting a Purpose The purpose for having an official protocol is to assist the district in creating a central information repository of grants applied for, denied, and funded within the district. CENTRALIZATION IS ESSENTIAL FOR MAINTAINING: 1) financial equity across the district, 2) matching existing resources with needs, and 3) ensuring alignment of school and district goals with all funding efforts.

5 Giving Direction In order to provide oversight, all grant requests will be reviewed prior to application through the appropriate process determined by dollar amount. SEE GRANT PROCESS FLOWCHARTS A & B: Essentially, grants less than $10,000 will be reviewed by the District Grant Writer, and grants more than $10,000 will be reviewed by the District Grant Review Committee, in addition to oversight provided by Business & Finance for grant budgets.

7 Providing Support A primary objective of the District Grant Writer and Committee in this process is to assist and educate others to become proficient at grant procurement in order to create internal sustainability. SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE IN THE FORMS OF: 1) posting of grant opportunities, 2) review/editing of inquiries, proposals, applications, & budgets, 3) consulting with individuals & grant project teams, and 4) staff training on grant writing.
