2 Trade Occupations Recent changes to regulations TRA Skills Assessments Require 6 months work experience CERT III IELTS 6 in each band Initial assessment valid for Temporary Residence only

3 Trade Occupations After grant of Temporary Residence Visa AND 12 months (FULLTIME) PAID employment in Nominated Occupation Apply for JOB READY TEST Full skills assessment then granted for Permanent Residence purposes

4 Changes to Visa Requirements – 1 Jan 2010 Trade Occupations IELTS 6 in each band Final Skill Assessment before lodging PR application 120 points (subject to any changes to be announced by 30 April 2010)

5 Changes to Visa Requirements – 1 Jan 2010 Non – trade Occupations Vetassess Assessments Study must relate to nominated occupation Temporary residence assessments only for New Graduates 12 months work required in Nominated Occupation in past 4 years to gain full PR skill assessment (where bachelor degree course directly related to nominated occupation).

6 New Skilled Occupations List To be announced by 30 th April 2010 Will take effect from mid 2010 (possibly 1 st July 2010) Current student visa holders will still be able to apply for 485 (Temporary Visa) Based on skilled occupation list as at 8 th February 2010

7 New Skilled Occupations List After mid 2010 – you will only be able to nominate an occupation on the NEW Skilled Occupation List The Federal Government is giving greater emphasis to employment needs of Employers and state/territory Governments

8 New Skilled Occupations List States will develop their own Migration Plans which may contain occupations not on DIAC Skilled Occupation List Employers or states may nominate you for your current occupation Even if that is NOT on the New Skilled Occupations List

9 Review of Point Test Government is conducting a Review of The Points Test criteria Points for certain occupations may be changed Details may become clear by 30 th April 2010
